Cancel Swimming lessons because of Omicron?

Anonymous
OP here,I didn’t expect lot of people voting for cancellation. It is funny how things have changed for me. I was super super careful in from 2020 till my kids got vaccinated a few months ago. I feel like we should be less scared…

Op here, when we do private lesson, it is still in a public pool with more people in the pool while the group lessons only have 6 people in the pool.

We paused until mid January and then will reconsider, but I am guessing we will start back up in February. The kids are all over each other in the pool. Our youngest can’t get vaccinated yet.

I think we should do it but DH is on the fence.

WWYD?

TIA
If omicron is everywhere, why cancel?

You are who we are trying to avoid.
DP. I don’t agree with ya. I agree that I’m waiting for Montgomery county to lift masks, so I can go back to gym.

We are pretty careful but we decided to keep our 4 year old in swim classes. He loves them and he has missed out on so many things because of this virus. The only real risk if the teacher and we know she is vaccinated and boosted, and has told us she does at home tests each week before teaching.

My DD does swim team 6 days/ week. Air Circulation is generally very good at pools due in general bc of all of the fumes from chlorine etc. her team is careful about keeping kids spaces out in lanes, though.

My kids have been swimming indoors competitively since June 2021. There were a few cases at our team, but no spread. Before that -- and during COVID -- they swam meets in Virginia while practicing outdoors in Maryland. In my experience, swimming is ok! I say keep them in swim lessons! It is really the best sport.

Fine by me, there’s too much traffic as it is.

Not cancelling. Our child is in private lessons but there are other private lessons happening at the same time. We’re all fully vaccinated. The instructors are, too. We’ve been careful and don’t dine indoors but we’re not stopping indoor activities for our vaccinated child.

Chlorine kills Covid. Wear your mask until you get into the water. Swimming is one of the safest activities (Covid-wise) during this time.

How does chlorine on the water kill covid in the air? Not trying to challenge you, just genuinely want to learn. I'm a lawyer w/o any science background beyond 8th grade

Yes, there’s a risk of getting COVID from swim lessons. On the other hand, drowning kills far more children than COVID.

I’m not scared of our family getting COVID (DH and I are boosted, kids fully vaccinated), I’m concerned about disruption from lengthy quarantines at their school. That’s the reason. So, yeah, we can avoid swim lessons for a month if it increases the chances they’ll be able attend school with less interruption.

FWIW, I also swim, and feel pretty comfortable when it’s just me in a lane. Swimmers exhale under water, usually, and the pool I was going to is so huge and well-ventilated that it’s not that concerning. I took last week off and will probably this week, again, only to reduce risk of quarantine.
