Wootton’s COVID positivity rates may be due to old poorly ventilated building

Well for some reason the renovation was canceled by MCPS. Now we got a very old building and the highest COVID positivity rates. The building is old and there are many interior classrooms with no windows. @MCPS has failed those students. I am feeling litigious and want to sue. While Wootton was taken off the list to renovate, I see Whitman is getting a new addition

The school buildings in Florida are just as old and they have much lower cases than MD or Wotton and they’ve been in school longer and without masking.

So when they say they spend $1.2 billion on "professional" personnel that's all for lawyers? That's fascinating. How do they pay the teachers?

https://www.montgomeryschoolsmd.org/uploadedFiles/departments/budget/FY2023_RecommendedBudget_WholeBook.pdf

In MCPS' defense, I heard it was only $11M spent on attorneys? And it's unfortunate that MCPS can spend $1.6M of covid money on the Kids Museum, but not on Wootton's renovation, though.

https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/BASISCAPITAL/Common/Project.aspx?ID=P096512

MCPS leadership doesn't even care about the basics anymore.

Yes facts matter. 11 million is for 2017 numbers to fight parents who have kids on IEPs. Lord knows what is spent in 2021. Can you imagine the legal bills for Damascus? But apparently only some legal fees come directly out of MCPS - they basically have unlimited funds to fight families who fund THEM.

Forgot one link - the Major Capital Project for Wootton: "An appropriation will be requested in a future CIP to begin the architectural planning and design for this project. Due to fiscal constraints, the County Council, in the adopted FY2021-2026 CIP, approved the completion date for this project one year beyond the Board of Education's request. This Major Capital Project is scheduled to be completed September 2027." https://apps.montgomerycountymd.gov/BASISCAPITAL/Common/Project.aspx?ID=P652115

I didn't realize the 11M was 2017. If it's more taxpayer funding than that in 2021, I hope that it makes the papers - parents really need to understand where MCPS is investing their funding (instead of funding programs).

Cannot trust Covid numbers in Florida. They have been notoriously under reported and they don’t even list Covid as a cause of death in the Florida health departments website. Don’t you remember there was a former employee from Florida who started posting COVID numbers independently after she was fired? Don’t believe anything from Florida. Heck governor DeSantis has been missing since December 17. No word from him saying he is OK, he’s on vacation, nothing. Radio silence. I would never take any data from Florida seriously.

Nice talking point. You’ve got zero proof of what you say. Florida has to report numbers just like anybody else. If you think he’s working the numbers like Cuomo was, you know the feds would be down his throat. So take your stupid lies and shove them where the sun don’t shine. Florida is doing a better job than Maryland could ever dream of doing. It hurts your agenda, I know, deal with it.

Interesting that the Covid omicron surges are all in the north east and in DC. Why is DC on the crown Central if it’s had mask mandates and people have been wearing masks and everyone’s vaccinated? The outbreaks are not happening down south (with the exception of Alabama)or out west. This overgrown nightmare started in the north east and DC where everybody has been masked since the dawn of time and there have been lockdowns after lockdowns after lockdowns. And these stares has the highest vax rates.

Honey, we all saw the data analyst for Florida publicly decry the sham numbers in Florida and admit her bosses told her to fudge the numbers.

Yeah honey and we also nothing came of it. So you think Desantis is out here just committing crimes, fudging numbers and the Fed run by your honey Joe Biden is it gonna do anything about it OK. You’re as dumb as you sound.

DeSantis? Yeah, a liar.

https://climate.law.columbia.edu/content/covid-19-data-misrepresented-florida-governor

Data from the Centers for Disease Control and other independent public health experts suggest that Florida’s total death toll from the pandemic is actually understated. Experts noted that Governor DeSantis’ administration has used a COVID-19 infection rate that gives “more weight to negative test” results, and thus skews the results. Governor DeSantis has used the skewed rate to justify reopening schools and businesses. In response to criticism, Mr. Piccolo denied that Governor was attempting to question the official death toll, stating “[n]o one in the administration is trying to cast doubt on the number of COVID deaths, we are trying to get to the facts.”

Unless you are in one of the new ly renovated school buildings, your MCPS school likely has a decades old HVAC system, which you already know, as some wings of the building are freezing and others hot as hades. Nothing new to see here.

Wootton was on the list to be renovated next (along with Poolesville and Damascus), when MCPS changed the way they evaluate who gets renovated next. Small improvement projects rather than big renovation projects. Supposedly more bang for their buck.

However, Wootton doesn't help themselves comparing themselves to Whitman or referring to themselves as the "miserable middle class" when testifying before the BOE. And complaining about property values when talking about boundaries just makes BOE members angry - just watch their body language!

There are many schools with poor ventilation and falling apart and their rates are not as high. Its parent/child/staff behavior that is why rates are so high. Our school should have been torn down years ago.

Did anyone figure out that the posts about Florida were to draw attention away from the poor state of Wootton HS? It's like a shiny object that people follow. "These are not the droids you're looking for..."

More things are probably outdoors in the warmer weather.

Well but you have to admit it was their tax dollars that funded Whitman’s second addition while their kids fester in the cold and mold; while their kids match Blair magnet in test scores without all the fuss; while the high schools that surround them are all newer - QO, Northwest, Gaithersburg, Churchill. The worst is their won’t ever see a new school - all due to politics. They don’t make the pols look good so they are going to be ignored until they do or hopefully BOE is voted out. Snowball chance.
