| The BOS should be investigated for selling the Carson site to Saudi Arabia. |
We've already seen what types of "investigation" of Democratic office holders Steve Descano can arrange. |
Amen. They did this behind the backs of the local community. Gave the excuse that there was not enough property for a new high school. Interesting, that there was more acreage there than at the Hutchison site. And, traffic patterns would have been far more acceptable--though still too far north to provide the relief needed for the overcrowded schools. Hutchison is even farther north and provides little relief to overcrowded schools. |
There is never any consistency in what FCPS does. Never. They always try to defend their decisions as a matter of principle, when it’s actually almost always a matter of expediency and/or politics. FCPS is poorly and dishonesty run at the administrative/School Board level, but sometimes there are amazing principals and teachers who, like families, deserve better. |
Adding capacity at the Hutchison can still provide relief for overcrowded or oversized schools. It just requires more steps to get there. |
Looking at the map, I would think cutting a road from Parcher to Herndon parkway would be a good idea. And parcher to Astoria circle |
Except that the overcrowded schools are all in the other direction. The students would almost all be coming from the other side of the DTR. Remember, this is supposed to relieve overcrowding at Chantilly and Centreville. Look at a map. None of the overcrowded schools are congruent to the Hutchison site. |
| Maybe they can take some of the land they own near Westfield HS, build a new middle school, and turn a middle school that needs to be renovated into a high school. |
And, pretty sure that Astoria is adjacent to the Innovation Station development for the new Metro. Hutchison would be a terrible choice-- |
| They have to build where they can. Land is expensive. |
That’s true. And I doubt the Hutchison site is any closer to Herndon than Madison is to Oakton. |
But, Herndon is not the school that most needs relief. 1. The schools that most need relief are not near the site (Chantilly, Centreville) Neither are the neighborhoods that attend those schools. 2. The traffic patterns are quite different from Oakton and Madison. Traffic alone should prevent this site from being used. There is only one artery that comes from the south. In fact, there is only one artery period. (Elden/Centreville) Add this to the new metro station nearby and it would be a traffic nightmare. Every school bus and Metro bus would be lined up on Centreville Rd blocking entrances to the DTR. 3. The location is not large enough to build a high school, fields, parking, etc. There is already a school on the site. Adding a school, parking, stadium, practice fields, etc. would be very difficult. |
What about the Clifton ES site? |
I know nothing about that site, but the area would make a lot more sense to provide relief. It would also enable those who live in Centreville's back yard to go to Centreville rather than Fairfax. |
It also menas that they aren’t limiting themselves to building it in Herndon. |
