| Some people have early rejections and early acceptances. They may be trying to figure out where to apply regular decision or early decision two. |
who says they haven't heard from the schools? My kid applied to nine schools, and she's already heard back from 5. |
|
My average mcps senior completed his applications in mid to late October, and dcum told us he was late and should just do CC.
His first acceptance arrived, so we are flying for a visit next week (first choice school, so we want to confirm it is a fit). Pretty sure lots of people will visit now once they’ve applied and/or were accepted. |
| Some people want to be prepared to make a quick decision once acceptances roll in. |
| Because there was this thing called a pandemic |
| um perhaps because they had time and the means to do it? As others have noted, apps are not all due yet and maybe they have an ED1 app coming out soon and want to have an ED2 choice ready to go if that doens't work? Many many reasons. |
| Because the school didn’t offer guided tours last spring when we were doing other college visits. They are now and he got in due to rolling admissions. So we’re taking an official tour next weekend. |
This. I took my kid for a self-guided tour last spring. We returned in October when they offered an Open House. |
| I don't have a kid this age but maybe because it's been hard to visit in the last 18 months and no one knew how long that would last. |
Most schools (at least the ones I'm familiar with) were not offering campus tours last year at this time. Some of them didn't even have students on campus at all. If you went last year at this time, depending on the specific school, it's possible all your kid would have seen is the outside of a bunch of buildings. |
Agree. For some schools, it's a relativley short period between regular acceptance, and the requirements to commit (putting down deposits.) If a student has truly applied to schools all over the country, they probably won't have time to visit them all in the spring. |
| Because some college majors not only require an academic acceptance but also a program acceptance, which includes an in-person interview, portfolio review, and/or audition. |
+1. With my older kid, we had spring break of Junior year. This time, it was summer before most schools restarted tours. DD was able to take the last three weeks before senior year started and hit three clusters of schools that required flying, plus do the common app. She’s hit four more since school started, and did her last one, which isn’t too far away, last weekend. If she’d been in marching band like her older brother and started that 8/1, she would have been screwed, since she’s doing SLACs that want demonstrated interest. We’d be visiting now trying to finalize ED and RD. And we may well be re-visiting if ED1 amd ED2 fall through. Kids who did a bunch of EA schools are likely visiting or revisiting too. Seriously OP— don’t be so judgmental. For a number of reasons, college apps have been very challenging for the Class of 2022. |
I have a number of friends with DCs still looking at schools. Nearly all their kids are super organized, have submitted ED/EA decisions, and are now confirming their list/apps for RDs and/or, when necessary, an ED2 app. I am impressed by how seriously they are taking the process. |
| OP, school open houses and on campus events for accepted students continue well into March. You’ll see kids traveling here and there up through that time. Relax - they’ve got this. |
