Why is Calleva Starting Registration So Early

Anonymous
It's annoying because if you aren't a returning family you can basically never get in! All weeks already seem filled. Do they ever open slots for non returning families for that registration day or if it's gone it's gone? Dying for at least a week at Calleva for DS.

Even new families can find something, even if it's not your first choice activity or week. Take that this year, and then you'll be a returning camper in the future.

It looks like every week is already filled after the priority registration. Does anyone know if they have spots the hold and release on registration day for new families this week?

How can you tell if everything is already filled? Priority registration hasn't even begun for most of the camps, so everything can't possibly be already filled.

Grrr. I am tempted to cancel out week at Calleva over this bullshit new system. I went to sign my kids up at 6:00 pm on the day they opened registration for adventure camps (1 hour after registration opened) and the option my son wants was sold out. Fine, but apparently you cannot be on the waiting list and simultaneously registered for another option. So either we gamble that a spot opens up and he misses out altogether if not, or we take a second choice option. Again, not a tragedy—he will have a good time regardless. But the fact that they can’t maintain a waitlist for other options is bullshit.

But your son cannot attend two camps simultaneously, so if you got a spot from the waiting list, you'd drop out of the other camp. I don't blame them for not wanting to deal with that headache. You knew things would fill up fast, so don't log in an hour late.

Um, yes. And since they sell out of everything, if he dropped out of his second choice it would open up another spot. If they had zero waiting list policy, fine. But why have a waiting list only got people who aren’t registered for another option? We’ve done plenty of camps that maintain waiting lists for desirable options. It just seems like a dumb glitch.

Apparently, kids of conservatives aren't welcome at Calleva camps. The owners have a "F--- the Supreme Court" sign in front of their house. Good to know.

Awesome. I’ll give them another big donation since they are decent humans.

Wow. Way to contort yourself around an issue. The Calleva operators are private citizens and can post whatever they like at their home or their camp. Don't you understand free speech? Don't like their opnions? Don't send yours kids.

I just submitted my open enrollment info and budgeted for camps for next year.

Wait crap. I realize this post has gone in a different direction but I didn't even think about this and budged my FSA amount to include Calleva, but then I paid in Dec 2021. So I bet it doesn't work for FSA this year. DAMMIT

If the sign went in the other direction, how would you feel, pp’s? Leave the politics out of the children’s summer camps. Seriously. Let them live like kids without your baggage and drama. Covid has crushed their youth. Just stop.

Also, regardless of the subject matter, it’s gross to have such language blatantly displayed on the door of a home, let alone the home of people who are meant to teach your kids how to behave. They’re no better than trump (supporters).
