Democrats are desperate. They know Biden has problems - both political and health - that poses major risks for the party in '22 and '24. They also know Harris is a non-starter. A Harris at the top of the election ticket in '24 would only lead to a Reagan style landslide for the Republicans.
I'm not sure why they are seemingly looking more closely at Buttigieg as the heir apparent (it tells you everything that there's already discussions on the heir apparent so early in Biden's administration). Buttigieg is not especially likable. He's a McKinsey empty suit, a gray-faced bureaucrat, an "expert" in an age that is rapidly turning against the failed wisdoms of experts. He's not electable on a national scale outside the Democratic primaries. There will be absolutely no voter enthusiasm for Buttigieg versus a Republican electorate that will be digging up grandma from her grave to get her to vote again. Frankly, I do think the Democrats are going to take massive hits in both '22 and '24 and there's little they can do about it so they might as well try to score some self congratulating moral points by having a gay presidential candidate (and only the Democrats will care about it too). The party structure and leadership as well as beltway chattering classes are too deeply beholden to the progressive left mindset through their activists and donors and personal beliefs to really understand the scale of the angry revolt that is heading into their direction. |
Dems need to realize that you need to connect to working class voters of all races to win a general election. Wonky urbanites with graduate degrees and UMC suburban moms only make up a small fraction of the population. That Bill Maher New Rules segment about it it not being about artisan but Art and Stan was very instructive, but Dems won’t listen and will obsess over courting Twitter likes over winning by focusing on meat and potatoes issues in a tone that builds a bigger tent and doesn’t exclude 70 percent of the country.
Case in point is how they treated Tulsi. A party that cared about winning national elections and not virtue signaling to a shrinking, increasingly bourgeoisie and elitist base would protect and build up a woman candidate with Tusli’s military background and working class appeal. |
How silly. You admit you don’t listen to him or pay attention to him, so your opinion isn’t based on anything substantive. Ridiculous. Girl, bye. |
Wait...but you think Pete - the gay Rhodes scholar is going to somehow connect with the iron worker in Ohio or the evangelical in Utah? That's the funniest thing I've ever heard. The man who just transplanted here refuses to leave the confines of D.C. and his bike commute to work! He's a enjoy Eastern Market and shop at Tysons urbanite gay dad. Not the go have a beer with the cop during a race summit type of person. I agree on Tulsi though. We need candidates who can win and connect in these communities. Gabbard, Manchin, Cuomo, a younger Biden. Also people who have a voice and aren't afraid to use them. |
On the down low? |
Oh I like Mitch Landrieu. I could see him on a ticket with Harris. |
What about that post advocated for Pete in the general? And it’s not about just an iron worker in Ohio. It’s about a cable repair man in Largo and a carpenter in Herndon too. |
OP. But Kamala isn’t the competition to win. The competition is some Republican that republicans has a rabid fan base like Trump or DeSantis. Their followers will literally storm highly restricted areas for them. |
Bringing up Gabbard in anything like a positive light reveals this as the ravings of an insane person. |
Haha, took the words right out of my mouth. |
There are many minorities who have extreme homophobia. Won't work. |
Yes, it is the same criteria that made Harris VP. Ignore ability and experience in favor of checking identity boxes. Pete was the mayor of a small city who was made Sec of Transportation to step out of the way of Biden's coronation. He isn't remotely qualified for his current job and the idea of him moving up is laughable. |
When you make a hire for diversity over substance and character you get exactly what you deserve…..an inept, bumbling incompetent. |
Mayo Pete. |
