get tested. My vaccinated brother was sick and was positive, then his wife 2 days later, then the kids. everyone is fine, but they were all vaxxed…

Ooh, do you have a recipe? I mean, I guess you don’t or you would make it.

I do know how to make it, but the layers have to be applied at 3-hour intervals so it's kind of a project.

This jello is so frustrating. I tried to carry on the tradition and just could not get it right. I applied the next layer too soon and got breakthrough or too late and they didn't stick together. I don't know what the secret is these old Aunties have mastered. I normally don't have problems following recipes.

I’m betting your Aunt left something out of the recipe. My ex-MIL used to do that. It’s a thing for some of these older ladies.

But I suppose you could do it over two days, right? Leave the 4-layer jello overnight and continue in the morning?

I think not because if too much time elapses the layers don't stick together and it will fall apart when you cut it.

Aah. Thanks.

DH forgot to tell his parents we were coming for Thanksgiving. I started texting about what recipe I should make and my MIL had no clue we were coming.... for 4 days. Thanks DH!

Yep. It has to be the exact right amount of set, not too set but also not so soft that the incoming jello layer will disrupt it. It's kind of like nursing a new baby. I do 6, 9, 13, 3, 6, 9, and midnight.

Thanksgiving will be fine, even though we're going to ILs and there will be lots of traffic...then, two days after getting back home, my sister's family of six is staying with us for six days because of a family wedding. I am not looking forward to the back-to-back of traveling and then hosting so many guests for so many days.

My main grievance has just now become that everyone in my family is too lazy to have ever made a 7 layer jello mold for our family and I will never get to try it.

(this includes me, I am also never going to try to make it)

My husband objects to it on principle because Aunt Carol works so hard and people don't appreciate it.

18 mini croissants that will be made that morning and two cranberry almond loaves.

WTF? That was $66? Are they gold plated?

I live in San Francisco. I laugh when you guys talk of things being expensive in the DMV. You don’t know from expensive.

We had to cancel because DH has COVID. He is not that sick but he isn't doing shit with the kids. This is our second quarantine in two months. Ughhhh.

Well yes. I can't imagine working hard on jello. This is what makes Aunt Carol so special and why I am grieved my family is only making regular sh*t like pies and potatoes. Let's step it up with an overwhelmingly complicated marginal tasting jello side dish people!!!

That’s on you for choosing to live in an expensive area. Don’t like it? Move. We love the Dmv area!

Football starts at 12:30 and I'm irrationally irritated that I am going to miss the first half hour of the game. Why? The Lions are absolutely terrible, they haven't won a game all year, but I don't care. I'm from Detroit and t's my thing.

This sounds miserable.

Good thing you are not invited.

I love living here. Not moving to a humid area where everyone is wildly insecure and constantly posturing.
