Gene was not a result of the tryst between Don and Betty at Bobby's camp. Gene was a last ditch effort to test her love for Don as she watched her father in deep decline and the guilt-ridden relief she felt when she saw her father's new wife take care of him, thus relieving her of the responsibility. She thought it was her duty to try and stay married for everyone involved.

The fling at Bobby's camp was completely between exes, no new spouses were ever told, and it softened the relationship between Don and Betty for both parenting and her ultimate demise.

So true. Your husband already knows about your history with your ex. One weird nostalgic thing doesn't change the fact that you thought he was dog shit and divorced him. You married your new DH and, presumably, love him. It's not like you're pining away for the past. It probably just reminded you why there was a thing in the first place, a thing about which your new DH is well aware happened.
