That’s the point. What makes restaurants where people congregate for an hour or more magically safe, while a grocery store one is in and out of quickly a hotbed of danger, filth and disease? This is anti-science drivel. |
So why didn't you put a mask on? |
|
I’m on the far left - most of DCUM would consider me a communist. I disagree with this mask mandate. It’s performative.
If we REALLY wanted to protect the vulnerable, we would have universal healthcare. I’m vaccinated. Vaccines aren’t perfect but they work. Many people I know are now triple vaccinated. A paper mask for the first 30 seconds of being in a restaurant does literally nothing. I can sort of understand requiring masks while handling food in the kitchen, but I don’t think workers need to keep masks on at all times when they aren’t preparing food. I’m SO over Takoma Park’s performative masking. Especially people who wear masks outdoors as some kind of symbol. You know what it says to me? Pointless virtue signaling. Rich white people who don’t want to actually make any fundamental economic changes for their neighbors but will be all “look at me! Look at me “suffer” by covering my pasty white face and make a show of struggling that one time I pretend to exercise outdoors and feel superior to the unmasked proles, who just aren’t as woke as me!” |
| Lived in DMV 25 years. Never been in Takoma Park and don’t see why I’d go now. |
It's a really great place. I live just south of it in DC but walk there all the time. I love the restaurants there even if the mask mandate is a joke and completely ignores science. |
|
Takoma Park has its own parody site:
https://takomatorch.com/ That tells you something. I'm not surprised about their mask mandate -- that's very TP.. and why I avoid the place if I can. |
Bethesda has its own parody site too. What does that tell you about Bethesda? The Takoma Torch also makes fun of other places in the county, for example Olney (remember the recent Olney Fans controversy)? What does that tell you about Olney? |
I will never forget the time I was in TP with my toddler, who was very hungry. I was with my older daughter at her swim lesson, so I asked another parent if there was a McDonalds nearby. She laughed, rolled her eyes, and said “oh we don’t have McDonald’s in Takoma Park!” in a haughty tone. I felt like I was in a bad movie/sit com. |
It's true, there is no McDonald's in Takoma Park. There is a McDonald's across the street from Takoma Park, though, and there is a Popeye's in Takoma Park. Oh, and a Chuck E. Cheese. |
+1. Whether you're a fan of TkPk or not, this should be a surprise to exactly no one. |
DP Lol, true! Such a joke. |
| I'm actually surprised that TP allows eat-in dining. |
Come on, they don't want all those businesses to go under. That's why the whole "you can take your mask off to eat and drink and flirt and laugh and sit at the bar" exception was carved out. The only problem is it makes a complete mockery of the mask mandate for everywhere else and shows that the decision has nothing to do with health or science. |
| Of course they are. It's the Union of the Socialst Parks of Takoma. Their ministry of health control has not permitted their populace their freedom yet. |
EXACTLY! |
