Maybe they are a fringe player on the higher level team and there to be an extra sub when starters can't attend. In that instance I could see why it's done. But when teams like olney are bringing high level players from EDP down to NCSL division 5 teams, umm no. That is a massive gap in talent where a few ringers abslutely can make the difference. |
| The player would be a starter on an EDP team and would go to all throes practices but when possible would play the NCSL games for other team since friends are there. Would pay the fees for both teams. Can you do that? |
| It's difficult to do this if the two teams are playing each other. |
i have always assumed that it is not allowed but I know several kids who do this. EDP in Maryland, CCL in VA. Both USYS. |
Technically not allowed........... |
Assuming it’s the same club, yes, you can absolutely do this. But if the NCSL team needs players and your kid is playing at a higher level, it seems crazy to pay for both? My kid plays at a small club with small rosters and guest plays down all the time without paying to be on a second team…. I think we’ve played 6 extra games this season so far (and turned down a couple more). DC is rostered on an EDP team and guesting on NCSL teams. |
Why? Why do you take playing time for another player and let them subsidize your play? Should your kid be playing down at that level/they are not good enough for your paid team? Are you with Valor or Olney? |
| If you live right on the corner of Utah, colorado, Arizona, and nevada? Can you play on a team in all four states? |
Mine does this too. He plays up for his primary team, on age for a secondary team in the same club. Nobody seems to mind - the on age team can't always fill out a roster so they need bodies. This was especially true last season when the on age team had a number of boys not play at all - so there were days when they had 11 or 12 players, including some playing 2 years up just to fill the roster. Small clubs have to do what they can sometimes. Rather have that than no season for a team. |
+1 our kid also plays up one year and two years for his primary teams. He does not play on age as there is a significant drop in play. That’s small club life for you. Many kids playing on age and up to ensure that the club can field teams in as many age groups. |
Yes this can happen but it is not usually so nefarious. Clubs are not obsessed with their NCSL teams. Clubs will more often play the same team in two different leagues like EDP for some variety and possible challenge. Many players will also float between say the NCSL team and the EDP team. These players are often bubble on the top team and the coaches/club would like them to get some more playing time and confidence on the lower team. This is quite common and not a big deal. |
There are plenty of players who do that. Its very easy to do if both teams are in the same club. |
How about the nexus of GA, NC, and SC? Or VA, MD, WV? |
