That's not what the story said. She was hoping to land one of the last spots in the camp. There's nothing that says that she turned down an official spot on the team, just an opportunity.

Ten players across Riley’s coaching tenure described how he would “bash” and “shit-talk” the national team, and he has frequently spoken about his frustration with the team’s schedule and how it affects club play. Farrelly didn’t miss an Independence match because of the call-up, but she said Riley told her that she had been disloyal to him and her Independence teammates.

U.S. Soccer called her in to the final camp before the World Cup, set for June, but Farrelly surprisingly declined, saying she wanted to remain in Philadelphia. The next training session, “I could tell he was proud of my decision.”

This is from another article in 2015. Doesn't say she turned down the team invite. Just the camp.

Prior to the 2011 World Cup, when Farrelly was the No. 2 pick in the defunct WPS College Draft and becoming a regular with the Philadelphia Independence, she participated in national team camps under Pia Sundhage in February and May. When the invite for the pre-World Cup camp arrived, she declined.

“It was just a weird time,” she said. “I was with my Philly team, and it was my first season. I went to one or two camps, and it’s not like I didn’t feel ready, I just wasn’t happy there. I liked Philly, and I just stayed.”

FACT: men’s sports are worse on harassment. What Riley did and others makes me sick. What coaches do to men and say to men —- and what other male players do to make players is far worse.

Harassment. Abuse. Pro level, college, club - you name it.

I have no idea if it is true, nor does anyone else on DCUM. People make false claims about things. People also do bad things like sexually harass others. Innocent until proven guilty. Let whatever facts there are come out during an investigation.

Curious what people think of the decision to cancel games. On the one hand, I certainly get it, but on the other, don’t you want to have games so fans can come out and show their support to the players?

Coach Riley done being investigated. Serial abuser. Fired. Coaching license revoked. Legume President and League counsel fired for helping cover up. More firings to come as Riley’s prior team covered the reason he was fired from that job. Covering up for serial abusers is not allowed.

The players requested via the Players' Union that the games be canceled and the league agreed to accommodate the request.
