Agree that it depends on the age. And though I have seen a lot of games--sons and nephews in travel in the DMV--that's a limited view. But CCL has the greatest range of teams that I have seen, probably because it is the smallest and lacks promotion and relegation. So, the average is less meaningful than it is in an NCSL divison or EDP division. I don't know that the median would give you all the relevant information either but it would definitely give you a different picture. I don't think CCL is terrible but I don't think it has a niche anymore. |

Interesting the hate of CCL. It’s funny when people say “top teams” left CCL. Only Beach and Skyline did. Loudon and Arlington were second teams. CCL clubs prayed that ECNL players were coming down to play so games would be competitive at the older age groups. Realistically the list goes:
MLS Next ECNL CCL1/ECNL-RL/EDP 1 & 2 CCL top clubs are good and can compete. ECNL-RL is the same. Both leagues have top clubs and both leagues have some weak clubs that fill out numbers. |
CCL is long gone keep dreaming. CCL is the new ODSL |
Maybe Loudoun prayed for guests but Arlington Red (2nd team) was at or near the top of several CCl 1 divisions and is now out. SYC, also very strong, now has MLS and ECNL so whatever is left for CCL can't be very strong. Beach and Skyline are gone. Definitely not the same as a year ago--which was already a very mixed bag! |
| Wait, my DC plays ECNL-R and has already committed to SMAU. Lots of teammates are being recruited as well. |
Nobody cares about MLS 'Now' why would anyone care about MLS 'Next'? MLS is lower than rec soccer on the global scale. |
CC1 had its run. It was good for awhile, but really, it’s almost done. I know the rankings aren’t perfect, but they do hold some weight. Arlington’s second team is ranked number 10 in Virginia. So while yes, it’s a second team at Arlington, they play much more on par with first teams of other areas. if you want your dc to play MLS Next or ECNL — then ECNL-RL is the best proving group at the moment. Then EDP Division 1 or 2. If they can dominate games in ECNL-RL, they should be able to at least compete in ECNL |
ccl can literally compete with almost any of the ecnl-rl teams |
In which age group and gender? |
You forgot Legacy and FFC. That allowed the north/south divisions in ECNL-R. Now that there is a north division it makes no sense for the NOVA clubs still in CCL to not make the switch. A lot of parents at NOVA CCL clubs are going to think it’s stupid to go play Roanoke or Rush when they could play local rivals within an hour or less. |
FFC and Legacy were very poor clubs at the end of their CCL run. Good teams in a few age groups but look at the standings. Both clubs are near the bottom in almost every age group. The drive definitely is a major factor. |
I'd put NCSL 1 and 2 over CCL 1 & 2. CCL is the new ODSL. At the most, I'd give it another year before it's done |
Yea, now that I think about it you’re right. CCL 2 is sad at this point. NCSL D1 teams are decent. PWSI Pride is a great example. Solid team that punches well above its weight — often. |
I disagree with this. Richmond would be more than fine in MLS Next, and Loudoun would not disgrace itself. McLean and BRYC would indeed get mowed down. |
I wasn’t considering Richmond due to their location, but yes, they’d be fine. Loudoun is a joke. |
