The other rules that have or are being considered. 1) Yellow and red cards would be similar to hockey - ie player would leave game for a set time. 2) Unlimited subs(like college soccer). I like this as a fan. I want yo see the players at their best not teams team with tired players. 3) reducing games to 30 minute 1/2. Think 2-3 will pass at some point. It will allow more games($$$) with less playing time. The stars too many games(league play, champions match, national team commitment, etc) |
Big guys wear down faster. Fact. |
Sure. Guess that is why 3/4 of the players in the major European leagues are above average height? |
This idea was proposed leading up to the 1994 World Cup here, along with having four quarters instead of two halves. The issue with replacing throw-ins with kick-ins is that every time the ball goes out, rather than a quick throw-in the chances are that we have set-pieces that take longer to assemble and defend. Especially five yards from the end-line, it becomes a quasi corner kick. I get why there is a tendency to want kick-ins but it would slow the game down more than speed it up. |

Leave it, it's fine the wy it is.
There's no need to make it more "exciting" by creating more offense. Fans downt watch soccer for high scoring games, expecting an 11 goal shootout and if thats that important, make every goal count as 5pts Look what happened to baseball, football and especially basketball, it's almost unwatchable. |

Can you imagine if they get rid of the off-sides rules?
Teams would leave 3/4 defenders in the back field the entire time and offenses would routinely play kick-ball up the field. This will become “Soccer Volleyball”. LOL |
I like #1 above. Lightly modified. No offsides 25 yards and in. This is relative to the ball. If the ball is inside the 25 (new line) then there is no offsides. Shrink penalty box to 12 yards out and 6 yards to left and right of goal posts. This limits both GK use of hands and limits BS penalty kick calls. Also, once the ball has crossed half field in your team’s possession no intentional playing back to your keeper at all (including feet). If you do, the passing player receives a yellow card and a direct free kick is given from spot where keeper receives the pass. So not as limiting as the proposed half field rule, but does force team to not use the last resort GK as a possession outlet once they’ve advanced into their offensive half. |
Using rules that college soccer uses would be terrible. Look at the awful affect unlimited subs has had on College Soccer, it is a terrible product to watch. |
No that is the talent and limited practice time. |
Not quite, unlimited subs would put a premium on work rate over tactics and pacing. The game would migrate more towards frenetic chaos than it would on deliberate and methodical movement. |
No you can see the best players well rested. Playing at a high level and not exhausted. |
No, you actually will get to see less of the best players because they are resting. There is nothing attractive about turning soccer into hockey lines. |
| On the flip side, I would like to see the “advantage” rule applied to basketball. |
Then games with scores in 150s and 200s would be the norm |
