Barrel-leg jeans

They look like mom jeans, which are definitely in right now. I have a pair from Madewell.

We wore baggy pants (jeans and other fabrics) and pegged them back in 80s and early 90s.

We mostly wore fitted tops tucked in with a short jacket—sometimes longer jackets.

Sometimes we wore baggy untucked blouses (with or without a jacket).

Sigh.

To make this look more current, I would wear a white tee and long, luxurious duster type sweater.

Unfortunately they’re hideous, but so is basically everything that’s in style right now.

The look you’re describing with the long duster sweater is what we call “the Karen” around here. Please don’t wear that outfit.

Right it’s all about proportion. Wear a fitted top with these wider legged jeans. Otherwise you’re just adding bulk.

Saw an early-20-something today wearing ankle length barrel-leg jeans and 2-ish inch lug-soled ankle boots with a slightly cropped snug ribbed sweater. Gorgeous young woman; hideous clothing. Pretty sure I wore that same outfit in college and looked just as hideous, though I was certainly “fashionable” at the time.

There must be a way to modernize the style without looking like a 90s outcast.

Three years later… these are so comfortable. Tempted to buy another pair, but fear they were outdated a year ago.

The long duster sweater over a basic tee with jeans is the OPPOSITE of current. It looks very dated right now.

Close fitting ribbed sweater or buttoned fitted cardigan would be better

The best version is at Madewell, kind of a barrel leg “lite.”

Everyone is wearing them and perhaps it depends on the body type but they are a little 'old prospector' to me.

Barrel legs don't look good, but they're a little fun. I have a pair, but they're unambiguously trendy so I'm sticking with ONE pair.

I’m not that poster and I wouldn’t wear it with barrel leg jeans but please don’t come for my long cardigan sweaters. I am f—cking freezing all the time and want a bathrobe I can wear in public. Okay if it’s fitted black pants and a white tee? (Although how long does it need to be to be a duster? The ones I have are mid thighs length.).
