The Virginia numbers make sense since the participation was 33% lower, meaning that only the more competitive students took the SAT and the expectation is that the scores would go up. In FCPS, the participation was about the same (4% drop) so the scores are roughly comparing like-to-like. |
Did you weight them using population of the graduating class in 2019 at each school? |
Wait, are you seriously adding up each school's average score and averaging that? Not all schools have the same number of test takers. |
|
Only the scores of Asian students are holding more of less steady over the past two years. Big decline in the scores for Black, Hispanic, and White students.
Heads should be rolling in Gatehouse over this latest fiasco. |
I assumed that's what PP was doing as well. Can't get much dumber than that. |
Yes, that's what I did. I was wrong. Sorry for cluttering up the thread. |
| It's nice to have someone else in the dummy club! Welcome - we tend to be nicer than the average! |
Not the averager above, but a fellow member of the dummy club and this was thoughtful. |

Whenever FCPS says scores are "holding steady" or still above national averages it's a pretty good sign they are declining, as has been the case in FCPS for the last two years.
Scores improved in Loudoun and I wouldn't be surprised if they improved in Arlington as well. Fairfax is a system in steep decline because it constantly sends the message that merit is a product of inequity and should be downplayed, and that the only goal should be equal outcomes for all. Rather than pay dividends, this race to the bottom is driving people with other options out of FCPS. |

| I think PP was making a reasonable inference since the FCPS and Virginia averages have been heading in opposite directions. What's your point? |
Well, in the US it’s 1068. So….it is better. |
I’ve worked with both LCPS and FCPS. LCPS is a much better district. It’s a lot easier to be a teacher with LCPS. The students are higher academically and less entitled. |
The scores in LCPS are still a good bit lower than in FCPS but they are trending in the right direction, whereas FCPS is in decline with the hapless Superintendent and the sad assortment of crazies and hypocrites on the School Board. |
Whatever. Loudoun County is richer (HHI $143k v $125k), has fewer F/R lunch students (18.7% v. 30.91%), has more white and Asian students (68% v 59.5%), and the SAT's have been lower, at least until this year. I do not know them for 2021. In 2020 FCPS was 1211 and LCPS was 1173. The much maligned (on this board anyway) Herndon High School had an average SAT of 1173 in 2020, same as the Loudoun average. Not the only measure, but since this is a thread about SAT scores, and you commented, we'll use that. Glad it is easier to teach there for you, though. Congrats on that. |
