SAT Scores Drop in FCPS

Anonymous
FCPS SAT scores for the Class of 2021 averaged 1201, a drop of 10 points from the prior year and almost 20 points down from the Class of 2019.

They don't bother telling you this, or let you know which of their 25 high/secondary schools are now below the state and/or national averages.

FCPS is continuing to decline under Brabrand and this completely inept School Board.

Huh? FCPS sent an email claiming that the SAT scores were great compared to VA and Globally.

Good to know they have committed to focusing on "center[ing] equitable access in our decision-making." Their ideal will be equally bad academic outcomes for everyone.

FCPS is a train wreck led by bumblers and overseen by frauds.

Their spin doctors do what they can but the system is going down the toilet. It desperately needs leadership and a School Board that pay attention to what matters and not just what's fashionable.

I'm confused, OP. Are you sure?

I looked up an old post of scores from December 2019:

According to https://blog.prepscholar.com/average-sat-scores-over-time (I have no idea the source here, it was the first Google result), there is a similar trend in the national average.

2018: 1067
2019: 1059
2020: 1051

Those are scores from the Class of 2019 two years ago (I fixed a typo above about the FCPS average for that class, which was 1218, not 1208).

And now the average is down to 1201, and they don't even release the scores for individual schools because they don't want you to know which ones are now below the state and national average. It's almost surely more than four below the state average now.

I've doublechecked the math and the FCPS average in 2019 was 1206.

How about comparing your math to FCPS's? This was their report, said 1218.

Here's an FCPS press release stating the FCPS average in 2019 was 1218. How do you "double-check" the math without having direct access to the scores of all FCPS students at the time?

Information released by FCPS indicates that, over a 2-year period in which SAT scores in Virginia increased by 32 points, the average in FCPS declined 17 points.

I guess people can keep trying to create confusion about the facts, or they can look at what's been happening in the county and FCPS to precipitate the decline.

Yes, using their reported numbers for the schools, it was 1206.
