Without defining the terms on these items, everyone's just going to be talking past each other. Is the 1619 Project a specific set of news articles or is it anything that focuses on the evils of slavery in America? Is CRT a distinct field of legal study or is it anything that has to do with anti-racism? The answer is probably somewhere in the middle for both issues. But these are really just excuses for liberals and conservatives to have another cultural proxy war, not really caring much about the underlying issue but really enjoying using whatever is handy as a rhetorical cudgel with which to hit the other side over the head. |
the main problem is that the crazies do not actually know what these things are - they just know the name because they have been told they are EVIL |
That's certainly true on the Right. But on the Left, it seems plenty of folks don't really know what these things are. I've seen arguments that a ban on 1619 or CRT means that schools can't teach that slavery was terrible. I mainly blame the Right, but the Left isn't exactly being precise either. |
100% agree. There’s no reason for CRT monitors in our schools when much safer, gas-less flatscreens are so cheap these days. |
The "normal people" who are buying and self-administering horse dewormer have arrived. I get it. You heard something scary on Fox news and did no further research. |
The 1619 project explicitly seeks to place slavery at the center of the narrative of American history. You have to be pretty far off the deep end to think that is going to go over well |
I'm not sure what the objection to centering the American story around slavery is. Which landmark moments in American history don't have direct links to our past relationship with slavery? |
Yeah you can't teach the foundational document of our country, the Constitution, without teaching how the states' delegates fought over how to deal with slavery in the Constitution, and the result. |
The only goals the 1619 project and CRT will achieve are to increase racial animosity among students and further divide Americans along racial and political lines.
These schemes do not belong in any public school. |
another vote for "historical truth is too scary" noted |
cool, push America is evil and see where that gets you. I'm sure republicans are beyond excited about the 1619 project because most people don't hate this country and don't want their children taught to hate it |
Pfizer is in the final testing of their own horse dewormer. Heads up! |
Another Koch-funded astroturfing campaign, and the mindless uneducated masses fall right in line. Do your research and follow the money, folks. Koch and his buddies have been buying out colleges and pushing anti-CRT in the public schools as part of their overall social, anti-public education warfare agenda. We really should tax these folks out of oblivion and teach our children that the existence of these billionaires and how they try to take over the courts, the schools, and public life is precisely the cause of what is wrong with America today. |
When you have a state approved version of history and try to remove all facts that do not align, how far off are the re-education camps? |
True patriotism is taking what is good about your country - in this case, its founding ideals- and ensuring your country lives up to them. You may not like it, but the ownership of human beings was baked into the Constitution. It’s not hating America to acknowledge that this may have had an impact on what came after. Study a little history and get back to us. |
