Plastic bags

Anonymous
I generally bring my shopping bags, but occasionally find plastic bags useful (for small trash bins at home).

It won't. Unless the taxman is standing at the self-checkout, I'll just enter zero bags and be on my way.

I want to say there were some places in MoCo where they removed the plastic bags from self checkout entirely.

Yes, Delaware replaced with paper.

But what about the trees?

What about them? Trees are a renewable resource. The wood pulp that goes into paper shopping bags (kraft paper) comes largely from pine plantations in the South. In many cases, that same land was previously used to grow tobacco or cotton.

I don't particularly like or use plastic bags but I found it very annoying that when I needed one in MoCo, I would get charged for it.

It is 5 cents!

I prefer the paper bags, but it seems like the grocery stores hide them or make you ask to use paper, and then the cashiers act all annoyed.

Finally, a use for all the change banks won't take.

Do anyone know if H-Mart (Korean grocery) currently charges for plastic bags?

In NY, HMart provides free paper bags. I don't remember if they charged for plastic before plastic bags were banned.

i think there was a bit of time where folks were charged a nickel/bag, then boom gone. well, there was a short hiatus during covid, but now back. i live in nyc.

fwiw, i just returned from my ILs with 20 grocery store plastic bags. we use them for our smaller trash cans. i don't miss the pollution, but do miss the convenience.

It's not a requirement on me, it's on the store to collect it.

We won’t. I’ll forget them at home or in the car. We lost them over the years and it isn’t worth the hassle. I’ll pay the 5 cents.

So shoplifting is legal if they don't try to stop you?

At the grocery we go to my usual checkout person let’s me take 15 or so extra bags or so off the spinning rack. We use them for small trash cans.

How do you produce that much trash? I use them for liners as well, and smaller/flimsier ones for dog poop, but no way can I use up what I get already, they pile up in a grocery bag until I take them for recycling.

You don't empty your trash cans twice daily? Gross!

Last time I was in a store in Delaware there were no options. Buy this reusable bag for $1 or carry your items. I was ready to pay 5 cents!
