How to verify divorce in Virginia

Anonymous
I can see several divorces by looking under the state online court case info. As long as you know the county to look for the name and dates should be there. I'm in VA.

That could be an explanation. Never heard of someone who wanted to see the decree. Often there is not much info there other than who is defendant and plaintiff.

This is spot on. ExDH’s AP tried to find evidence of our divorce

It’s people like your husband that go after single women on dating sites -all the time- that make trusting men in the 40’s and 50s to be honest is incredibly difficult.
Just trying to do the right thing over here, get your own house in order.

Hate to break it to you, OP, but we are still married and happier than ever.

Sorry Nosy Parker:

Divorce Records in the state of Virginia are classified as closed records, only accessible to eligible individuals with evidence of eligibility. Divorce Records become public information 25 years after the date the divorce decree was issued.

Ask to see his house!

Op, hire a PI for $300-400 and they would get you everything including his divorce decree from the county.

No big deal, happens all the time.

Not true - on the Supreme Court of Virginia site you can look by county and see a list of filings, outcome, etc. for divorce cases. Fairfax county is not included but you can see those on the courthouse computer. Anyone can go in.

I got divorced in Fairfax county and you cannot locate my divorce decree.

Fairfax Circuit Court does not have online access. Most other jurisdictions in Virginia do. My Loudoun divorce is easily found on the Virginia Courts website.

Why not ask him to see the papers? I would assume he kept a copy. Or ask who his attorney was for a friend going through a divorce.

You seem very proud to be with a cheater, but I’m explicitly trying to avoid being around one. Different standards I guess.
And thanks for those that helped. He is in Fairfax County and I did ask for an attorney referral (lol) but they did mediation. He just seems like a really great man, but there are so many imposters out there I want to double check.

Christ, leave that woman alone. I am sure she has a few stories for you. Lol

I would be fine telling a new girlfriend “yes, we are divorced. You can have him.”

Haha, and if it were my exH I would also add "Just make sure you really are the only girlfriend."

Well for me it would be "be aware that once he gets some, he will never ask for it again. Enjoy!"
