Trapped 8th grader

Yes, the fees are the same for everyone in our age group.

My 07 8th grader is having a regular fall season. Everyone’s just playing HS sports and club and making it work.

Your daughter could in theory practice and play with your clubs 08 team.

My understanding is that a ECNL limits the number of trapped players who can play down in any given game.

Does your 08 team have games?

I guess it is up to the club if they want to let your DD play.

Last month I emailed the DOC of our club because I hadn't seen nor heard anything about practices. We paid close to 3k in fees and now I'm finding out that my DD season will actually start in the Spring. I would like to know what other clubs are doing for those kids who are trapped. I'm also pissed that I'm paying alot of money for 1 season and tournaments/showcases.

I'm not poor but certainly would miss $3k. I don't understand how you signed up for this and just now realized the season would start in the spring.

I would claim the club is essentially charging a full season for 1/2 of the games and practices. Attempt to get more programming for your daughter by joining another team's practices. It may be too late for fall rec, but that would have been something I would do if I was in your position. The club isn't going to give you a refund so attempt to get the same amount of service as other families paying the same as you did and having a fall and spring season.

My DD will be a trapped 8th grader next year as well. Since most coaches prefer players with early birthday months, not many teams will have late birthday months for us to join. Hence, what option do we have? Team practices once a week without games will not be fun for her.

When I was a kid, I played both (club and HS). HS team practiced 5x per week, right after school, and club practiced 3x per week, around 6pm. HS games on Saturdays, club games on Sundays (or maybe it was the reverse).

The good thing is that US Soccer changed the birth years. Now all those kids can play pro soccer. I was so worried about that. We have to do what Europe does or the US will never produce pro athletes. Pardon me as I puke again.

DS is a late 2003, he has been screwed 3x by that age change. How?

He had to skip u13. Went from u12 to u14. Big deal? Yes - the older '03s had that extra year of u13 full 11v11 development. It took a year or two to overcome that.

Then where he was for u15 (other part of the country, not around DVM) they didn't do full 10 month travel soccer for HS ages u15 through u18. Soooooo he was on a garbage trapped u15 squad for half the year.

Now at u19 half the age group or more is gone. His club doesn't give a crap about his team.

But yes... It was MUCH easier for USSF to scout him for the national team

To avoid this, you'd need to be on an ENCL or MLS Next team essentially? A regular club team will take off the high school season?

Queston - If your child plays HS soccer (or any fall sport) gets hurt and has to sit out for spring season should the families be entitled to a refund?

Most Clubs have a stipulation in the contract about injuries. I think ours gives partial refund if the documented injury wipes out an entire season. Always pay by installment on credit card, never in full .

It hasn't been any better for my late Fall 2005, if you want company in misery. Birth year made him miss a year 11v11 and then had to jump into group that had already been on the big field 1 full year. His Club did not put any of the late Fall bdays on the upper team. They were al automatically (no matter talent) shunted to a lower team that first year.

8th grade trapped.

Then, last year pandemic .

His HS is Fall soccer while he plays on a team where 98% of the team is Spring soccer.

Then, we are waiting for his Senior year when 98% of his team will be in college and he will then 'play down'.

Yeah-- it's all a crock of sh*t.
