There seems to be some major jealousy in Arlington with how well organized we are.

Probably started by 1 of the 5 members of Smart Restart (Ventilation Woman, Lunch Petitioner or CO2 Monitor Woman).

deflection. Shows they don't want to answer this.

There you go!

Do you ask Habitat for Humanity or American Cancer Society Cancer Action Network or any other 501 c3 or c4 for their list of donors? 501 c 4's aren't even tax exempt so it's not like there is a benefit for donors.

If you disagree with APE advocacy, form your own group. That's the genius idea of freedom of opinion, thought and expression.

C4's nor C3's form to 'hide money' it's the mechanism the IRS uses to ensure donations are tracked and not misused. You sound like a Q conspiracy theorist.

Arlington schools are not so terribly important that some secret dark money web is funding a parent group to advocate for less ipad time are for smaller class sizes. The horror.

If APE wanted to be a non profit they could have incorporated as a 501c3.

They chose not to though. They are a lobbying and astroturf group that does not have to disclose who donates to it.

Hi there, 501 c 3's are not allowed to lobby. A simple google search can explain to you the difference between a c3 and a c4.

It's why American Cancer Society has a c3 and a c4.

Funded only by parents of children currently enrolled in Arlington schools?

I'm not jealous, but I am suspicious, because these seems like gathering of the most annoying, entitled white parents on AEM. Or possibly formerly on AEM; I don't keep up with it especially closely.

They are currently on AEM trying to convince other parents not to sign up for screening testing. Not a group I want to donate to.

Every parent who has varying degrees of views on COVID mitigation measures and their effectiveness is not actually in APE. But okay.

Also you don't have to donate to them. That's the beauty.

Well Simone has joined the discussion.

Please join our Facebook group too. We discuss analyses on many issues facing APS, and much of what we discuss makes it into current APS discussions in the community and media (e.g., enrollment, ARP funds, staffing with the virtual program, COVID testing and quarantine protocols, etc.).

From a social perspective, we have playdates and parties too.

So it's social. Sad and demented, but social. -- Breakfast Club

Then don’t. No one is forcing you to.

You obviously don't understand the tax code. 501c3's are also not obligated to disclose donors publicly. They do file 990s (same for c4s). I'm beginning to understand why some think there is something afoot. You don't understand the basics of the way 501c3's and 501c4's work. I highly encourage you to look up the code and read a little before you come onto a site trying to accuse a group of doing something disingenuous or nefarious. Here's some info on 990s https://www.irs.gov/charities-non-profits/exempt-organization-annual-filing-requirements-overview

This is correct. A c4 is able to do more political activities than a c3. For example, a scorecard showing SB member votes on various issues would be a forbidden activity for a c3. There is nothing nefarious about the choice of a c4. Many of your favorite liberal orgs have c4 entities.

+1. Why would an advocacy group register as a charity? Donations for advocacy/lobbying are not deductible. It would be very suspicious if they tried to front a charitable organization.

Simone? I know someone by that name but spelled differently. She has a kid in private herself, so I’ve never seen her knock on private school parents.

You do realize that whomever is in AEM saying whatever, is not speaking for APE, right? Many in APE are *not* in AEM so have no clue what you're alluding to. When APE rarely posts in AEM, they make it clear it's from APE.

This is what APE says whenever it goes too far.
