How long did it take for you to feel comfortable at your new job?

I started about 5 months ago at a new agency. I previously worked at an energy regulator and now a financial regulator. I took a grade demotion for get into the organization, although the pay scale is higher so I did get a raise.

Turns out, taking a demotion means my work is pretty easy for me and the agency is similar enough that it’s not been difficult to figure out.

However, I feel totally disconnected because of FT telework and I don’t know how to integrate into the organization where I’m doing much more than punching a clock.

I’m glad you posted. Reading this thread is helpful.

Agree - I think telework is brutal on new people who are trying to feel connection to the team.

I agree w/PP who indicated surges in understanding at 6 and 12 mos. I’m at 18 months and feel pretty comfortable with the work, though, also like another PP, I can see the org outside my team is pretty crappy so it’s time to start the process all over again someplace new
