Are acceptance/rejection letters mailed today?

I'm wondering about middle school letters ... can't stand the waiting!

Anyone know about middle school letters?

I called Eastern and Takoma Park on Thursday. TP says they will mail the letters hopefully by Wed, but possible by Monday. Eastern says it will be a couple of more weeks. Good Luck!

We received our acceptance to Argyle today, but are still waiting to hear on Eastern. DS would rather go to Eastern, but we have to send back intent letter to Argyle by the 23rd. I hope we hear from Eastern by then. Good luck to all who are waiting!

I think the school system will understand if you're in this situation. It happened to us a 2-3 years ago - acceptance at a lottery school but still waiting to hear from a magnet. I think it was actually no big deal, just call and explain, the Argyle coordinator will know what's going on and you probably will be the 10th to call.

When we took the exam for Blair they posted a very explicit date - "letters will be mailed Feb __". My problem is, I can't remember the date! Any help?

and the above answers surprise me re MS, as it sounds as though it is a little random the date they send, and this is not what they led me to believe, as I said above.

Waiting .... waiting ... !!

I hate the waiting ....

I recall at one of the MS info sessions the date February 5, but my friend who was also at both remembers March! So I don't know ...

Interesting about the dates being different -- that makes it more plausible that they are considering the applications separately. Or maybe less plausible ... I don't know.

I think the atmosphere in my kid's HGC classroom is going to be stressful for the next few weeks. They were all stressed out around the application/testing times. They want to go where their friends go ....

Re the HGC classrooms, we were at Cold Spring a few years ago, and it was indeed very stressful, especially after a few of the kids accepted to the MS magnets claimed it very publicly. The teacher was very worried about how badly the others felt who were not accepted.

Yes, PP! I agree. Typically our HGC is very sensitive to these kinds of issues (including lots of work with the kids to minimize conflict or bad feelings with the neighborhood kids in the school) so I hope they will do the same.

it's an awful process, though.

Part of growing up in a world where there will be valedictorians, NSMF, olympic finalists, Ivy league matriculants, and various award winners from the cradle to the grave.

Was that meant to be snarky or what?

More like, part of a world where appropriate, challenging free education is obtained with difficulty and not by everyone.

So, have the magnet letters been mailed?

I don't know what you mean by snarky but the poster's remarks are factual and reality based. Stress is part of living day to day, and we all try deal with this and accommodate this. A stress free environment is incompatible with life of the species.

Well ... yeah. I still don't see why that post was useful. Typical DCUM, maybe, but not really helpful in any way.
