GFR Falling apart?

Clubs and directors get paid the big bucks to step in and fill the gaps when a coach leaves or is sent packing. Most of these coaches aren’t even employees and are only 1099s.

Coach Eric quit? Where is he going?

It’s feeling a tad winter-ish, no?

At GFR all coaches are now employees with 1 year contracts (per our current coach) - some were not happy about it though and wanted to remain as 1099's.

Why prefer 1099? To be able to contract out for other teams?

This is what I heard too and was done as part of the organizational improvements since the spring. I would not be surprised to see some other coach movements based on PA's arrival.

Why did they prefer being a 1099?

So parents and players can up and leave when they want but when a coach does, it's not nice for the players?
I don't hear this when a coach develops a player for a season or 2 and then the player leaves.

Some GFR coaches were smart enough to not sign that awful contract and now can just say "bye bye" whether it's to get more money somewhere else or just to be away from the mess.

I used to coach at GRF 1099 is better because you are in charge of the tax write offs (hotels, car miles, purchasing equipment). When you are an employee everything comes in the form of a reimbursement, which leads to less autonomy.

W-2 employees can also deduct unreimbursed business expenses.

Correction: They cannot deduct under the current tax law. My mistake. Carry on.

Who said it's okay for players to do this? I think the issue is leaving in the middle of a season - players committed to a team and a coach and now that coach leaves mid season? Finish out your commitment, you're an adlt and a professional and want to be treated that way then act that way?!

GFR pays their coaches very well. Some of them make over $20k PER TEAM and coach 3-4 teams and then additional for doing camps/clinics/etc - some of them made over $100k last year and are still whining about their pay? PLEASE CRY ME A RIVER>

GFR was a way bigger mess a year ago then it is right now. What was so awful about this contract? Seriously. Our coach has nothing but good things to say about the changes that were made .

what was awful about this contract they were given? i've heard some complaints but most seem happy? most other clubs are w-2 so what's the issue?

what mess? seriously, what is the mess? they got rid of the ED everyone had an issue with and hired a new one. they seem to be making the right moves, just maybe not as quickly as everyone likes? genuinely curious what you are expecting from this club.
