lax culture from an insider

Skywalkers apparently has a lot of internal chaos. I would ask around before committing.

What about M&D?

Or TLC?

Any thoughts on Zingos? They are under new ownership.

Capital is the only club in this area that can hang with those top tier MD clubs. All of the clubs mentioned - M&D, TLC, Skywalkers - have excellent players and reputations. The question is whether it's the right fit for your daughter and if you want to drive that far to practice.

Capital is high school. Stars is middle school and feeds into Capital.

And if your daughter makes it, it's the "right fit." It's not private school, it's a team sport.

According to their website 7 kids from 3d made the U.S. U-19 indoor team. 7 out of 27 isn't shabby.

That's cool. But it's not like it was a national tryout. You had to know somebody to make this team. But sounds like a fun, good opportunity for all of those kids.

Looks like they had several tryouts around the country. Doesn't look like something where a Madlax dad gets Cabell to call and get him hooked up. Most of the kids on this team already played a year on top D1 teams or are starting college at top programs, Cornell, etc. Does look cool.

But for all I know it may be a joke like the U.S. U-19 field team where the three college coaches assigned most the team with their own recruits. That was a total joke and a Bob's your Uncle all the way.

Sounds like you're really excited about your son being on the team. Congrats.

Two more 3d Girls teams tryouts at NoVa field house. The one last night was pretty well attended. Closer drive than most other programs if from DC or NoVa. Not as well established as Skywalkers, but good coaching and teams should be well put together for the middle school grades. I hope they consider doing multiple teams per grade instead of cutting it down to one. I think girls club has a better chance to grow locally with more options for girls to play more than just spring rec before high school. Skywalkers does have a lot of parental influence and political stuff going on that can be very off putting, especially for the Virginia outsiders going up to their program.

This is a long thread and I admit I haven't been able to go through all of it. We may be moving to Western Loudoun County and we have a rising middle school DS who is expressing interest in lacrosse. Does anyone know anything about NOVA West? Do the coaches steer the kids to particular middle school or high school programs? We want to consider both public and private schools.

3d has made a concerted effort on the girls club side, and they seem to be a popular choice on that side where there is a lot less club competition. For girls 3d is a great choice.

On the boys side the youth teams are decent, but 3d had mixed success poaching high school kids in their first year. One thing that has attracted good players is flexibility. If you can only play fall or only play summer for some reason like your prep school has teams those seasons they are pretty low key and can accommodate that. They also take a lot of kids who play for other clubs who want to supplement their summer schedule with a few more tournaments. One early problem with 3d is they centered in Loudon County which is awful for people who don't live there. I think they recognized how negative people were on that this summer and will adapt by getting fields somewhere in Fairfax so that the commute to practices is less a hassle for kids in other areas. 3d recently posted tryout locations in Fairfax County and that is likely a reaction to the families from the Annapolis or other Maryland areas and Arlington County VA people who just hated driving to the Manassas area. Can't say 3d is the best game in town for getting recruited, but their coaches are all professionals (no dads! no local public high school coaches biased toward their kids, etc.) and the instruction is very good in my opinion. Maybe the recruiting things improve if they keep the youth teams together and they develop better results as the youth teams get into the high school years.

3d does have local high school coaches, but maybe you meant they don't have any good high school coaches And at S3,500+ a year ... I'll pass. Not sure how a club comes into the area and is more expensive than the most established programs that have been here for years already

Loudoun doesn't have middle school lacrosse through the schools and the high school programs are going to be limited to where you are zoned or, if there is space available in a school out of your home area you can request a transfer. Historically all Ashburn high schools are all too crowded to take transfers. Loudoun doesn't have many private high school options, either.

The Loudoun kids I know who are better than most play for Cavalier. Although I have heard Evergreen (Sportsplex) is trying to break into the field. There is a winter league that's more of a pick-up league.
