Huh, how does this even make sense? Clubs hosting tournaments want fewer teams to be able to play in their tournaments? These money grubbing clubs want to leave dollars on the table? I don't buy that one. |
ECNL/MLSN/GA don’t care about clubs making money they care about making money. Having a league with its own unique cut offs is easier to isolate their teams to attend private league showcases. |
Great we get to drive even further for tournaments to play teams we don’t already play during the season. |
How does anyone make more money when you shrink your player pool? That isn't logical |
I could see the leagues having the same general cutoff but allowing some exceptions around recruiting and trapped player ages. They’ll try to one up each other to attract more kids.
Leagues come and go all the time. The collapse of the DA was only 5 years ago. I think there is a real danger in leagues trying to isolate themselves or do something totally different. It’s too easy to push kids away and strengthen another league. Other than mls academies, the leagues are all pretty much the same. Mlsnext for boys and ecnl for girls are the top leagues in most areas of the country now but things are constantly changing and that may not be the case in a few years. |
Logical to the SY+ guy who wants a league to have a good cutoff for his own. |
Maybe in rec or USYS league? And that’s a maybe as we don’t know what will/would happen if leagues have different cut off rules from each other. But my point is logical which is ECNL does not care about its clubs none of the leagues do. Can you pay the entrance fee will your teams goto showcase? And as long as there is still teams wanting to be in ECNL they will be fine. You can cut the player pool in half as long ECNL can keep their amount of teams they are fine. They don’t get paid per player clubs do. |
Will depend if the NWSL can make a sting push for clubs team leave ECNL. Or if college soccer dies then people’s reasons for playing soccer will shift and so will the leagues. |
You have an off obsession with SY+60 |
Are you really this dense? Or just a troll? SY+60 = a 9/1 cutoff and 60 days before if players can prove grade enrolled and age. It completely gets rid of trapped players. Also as a bonus it doesnt allow players to regrade down for wins. It's just SY with a 9/1 cutoff and a specific expemtion for addressing trapped players that still exist with a single cutoff date. Another way to think about SY+60 is GY without the regrades. |
I don't know how plainly I can say this, but a LARGE majority of girls have 0 interest in going pro (as it is currently situated). College will always be a pathway until the $$$ are even in the same realm. |
You must have played soccer and are female to make such an informed statement about what girls want. Reality is that all players want to play at the highest level (professionally). They temper that dream with the cards that are available to them. |
There are always going to be kids who get "held back" in their early years of education - regardless of their birthdate. And in states with an 8/1 enrollment date for kindergarten, it's normal for parents of May / June birthdays to hold their kids back. So even with a SY+60 (meaning July 1), you're still going to have trapped players. The only way to get rid of trapped players is to go fully GY. |
I would say theres a different between kids who are in a grade because their school district started a couple of months before 9/1 and a kid who's a 16 year old freshman (ie regrade). One is in the situation through no fault of their own. The other is specifically looking to exploit the system being the biggest kid on the team. |
You are obviously a man who projects everything from boys soccer onto girls. Reality is the environment is completely different, and "All" players do not want to play at the professional level. There just aren't that many girls out there who pout posters of pro athletes on their wall and dreeam everyday of being Renaldo, or Messi, or LeBron for that matter. |
