Will Whittle be around next year?

They told us about this 2 weeks before applications closed for other schools, this was set up. I am pulling my child out of this school and sending him to a public school, because that would be better than this JOKE of a school. They emailed me a day after Christmas asking if I could pay 25% of tuition for next year, and they would guarantee my child is able to attend next year. I am not taking the chance and I am fed up. All of my childs friends have left, and there have been so many complaints about everything. There are mice, he couldn't play in his basketball game because they didnt have jerseys, the water is unfiltered and DC water is disgusting. There are open windows in the bathrooms and the 1st year they hired a pedo who did weird things to my son and his friends. They dont do background checks on their teachers. Whittle Schools and Studios is a façade. It's a smoothie of false marketing, bankruptcy, empty promises, terrible facilities(no AC, and faulty WiFi). This school tries to "globalize" but they ended up having one campus fail and another get taken away. The owner of the school, Chris Whittle has been misleading our parents for a long time. Due to lack of resources, students have buy their own books for class. The school could've been a great school, however our founder spent way too much time at the Chinese campus (which they lost), which resulted the DC campus having several foundational errors. This school sucks they gave us 1 extra weeks off break because they couldn't pay for security and food. This school required PARENTS to find investors to SAVE the school. Dont be fooled by the big building, only ONE pod is done. The school started giving students SUBWAY for lunch and they promised a FIVE STAR chef. The music classes dont even have instruments. EVERYBODY who speaks the truth about this school gets fired. To top it off this school has changed their curriculum every year. The staff never provided teachers with resources for learning therefore the learning quality was very low. Also, in the last meeting one parent who is "saving the school" really didnt enjoy the WSJ that exposes the truth-the person said that the writer isnt doing anything. THIS IS WRONG- I didn't even know that the school was schudled for foreclosure(the journal truly helped). They also sprung a suprise meeting on parents, on superbowl sunday at 4 o clock, and didnt provide a summary for parents who couldnt attend.

Did you find out what the Sunday meeting was about?

Sunday was when CW announced that funding had been secured through March 24th. We all know how quickly that was proven not to be true

Dear Diary,

“Yes, precious. False. They will cheat you, hurt you, LIE.

Where would you be without me? Gollum! Gollum! I saved us! It was me! We survived because of me! “

My trees, My trees, My PRECIOUS

Thrusting, Thrusting towards the sky; None can see but me - why?

Glorious trees, engorged coconuts hanging resplendently; None can see but me.

Shriveled twigs - no no no

Benno

Glorious trees, engorged coconuts hanging resplendently; Benno can you see?

KALE KALE KALE

Glorious trees, engorged coconuts hanging resplendently; “Only this and nothing more?”

COCONUTS COCONUTS COCONUTS

Benno grasp my COCONUTS; Quoth the raven “Nevermore”

Shriveled twigs, where are my coconuts? Am I coconuts?

The current and past parents should organize a lawsuit against CW and the school. Seeing as the parents are soooo savvy in finance the have a parents capital committee, why not a parents law advisory, that explores how to file a lawsuit against CW.

I would highly recommend doing that really really soon. Once the school actually closes, parent lawsuits will not get the attention they deserve due to all of the distractions. But now would be great.

Suing the school now would be worthless. He’s obviously headed for bankruptcy - likely Chapter 7, not 11. Any judgement would be subordinated to his actual creditors and would be nearly impossible to ever be collected.

The Parent Capital Strategy Committee can then organize a bake sale or fundraiser to cover the settlement negotiated by the Parent Legal Action Committee. CW will probably be happy to collect a % fee on both sides!

And just more evidence, as if any was needed, that Whittle cares about nobody and nothing except himself. All his braying talk about education, for decades now, has been nothing but theater. His true goals are just being a rich guy, but he also wants the image of someone who cares about higher things and is above simple greed.

Almost unfathomable what a cold-ass monster you have to be to do this to teachers, who do care about education and about the kids they teach and have kept trying to do what they feel is their duty despite his repeatedly snatching their minimal livelihood out of their hands.

As for him, I'd be veru surprised if he hasn't made many strategic sales over the years of his art collection, his fancy furniture and antiques and some of his real estate to offshore himself a good stash for his old age, when he'll certainly want to keep staying at the Ritz. I wonder if anybody in his orbit has called him out on the callousness of all this. It's sick.

I agree with your sentiment about Whittle. However, the not-so-well-kept secret among those that know him even peripherally is that his personal finances mirror the state of all his failed ventures and are a complete disaster. An article in the WSJ a couple of years ago noted as much:

"In a 2017 arbitration filing, Avenues Global Holdings said it lent him about $10.8 million in 2013 “to ameliorate his dire personal financial situation so he could focus on his work for Avenues.” The filing was included as an exhibit in Avenues’ 2018 legal action against Mr. Whittle. He resigned in 2015 because of disagreements with the company’s leadership, and his outstanding loan grew to more than $13 million in 2017, the arbitration filing said"

It is most likely the reason he is so desperately trying to keep the illusion of DC alive, hoping against all odds that someone will bail out the school and give him a large pile of cash for his troubles. The day the school has to shutter, that hope is snuffed out for him. So he will kick, claw, lie, obfuscate and delay at every stage and keep telling parents, teachers and staff that big money is around the corner. Because he needs that hope even more than the school!

I guess this is bad news and good news.

It's unfortunate if his own financial state is making him even more of a menace to the organization and the people in it than he would be otherwise. (although he's always such a menace that that may not be very likely...)

On the other hand, I very much like the idea of him getting a taste of his own medicine for a change, instead of being able to skate off with money he's managed to grift and skim while everybody else suffers and loses their shirts, as he's done several times before.

Can't say I'd be surprised if he were still just crying poor and actually has a stash somewhere that nobody knows about, though! I don't trust him any farther than I could throw him with my non-dominant arm.

Chris even lost his $140 million Hamptons estate last year.

Sad.

All of these rich parents just have stupid money to throw away. Many people on the comittee are senior students parents. They just want their kids to graduate.

Keyword being “stupid.” The number of folks who think that because something is shiny new and expensive it’s automatically better (when it may not even be good) never ceases to amaze me.

Those parents of seniors have my sympathy. What a situation to be in.

The writing has been on the wall for the school since before the school year started and, even for those willing to ignore it back in August, certainly since December when it missed payroll and left teachers in limbo going into the holidays. It is an awful situation to be for the children and their parents but it was avoidable
