No, only GY will address all the trapped players which is/was not a goal. The goal was to align as many kids with their grade in a 12 month period. They did that. You might not like it and want it changed but being loud about what you want doesn't make you right, it makes you a jerk. |
Biobanding= kid or parent complains that soccer is so hard, nothing more and everyone knows it. |
I think the last 76 pages have been SY+ guy pushing his agenda and replying to his own posts. Nevertheless, it has put us close to our goal of 1000.
Can't wait for posts from the SY+ Leo& Virgo parent. |
You might not be trying to cheat but a 14 month window is too wide for the more competitive leagues, at least through u16. Where did you get the database to calculate 99% of holdbacks have nothing to do with sports? Either way, we need a true age cutoff. Birth year was less to argue with in that regard and wonder if MLSN sticks with it. Although with the pipeline going SY they will lose the sept-Dec kids who had received RAE for several years as once they hit u13, instead MLSN would stick with picking Jan-jun kids who at u6-u12 were less likely to have received the top coaching and competition. |
Here's the thing ECNL and GA both have a waiver program for trapped players now. Most likely theyll also have a "waiver" program for trapped players after switching to SY. Also most likely it will address players that are in the correct grade but their school started a month or two before 9/1. The single date person is just scared that any changes to SY wont let his Sept kid play down for wins. |
I'm not replying to my own posts. I do think SY+60 is the way to go. There must be others that see its logic as well. I appreciate all the crazy spam posts fighting against SY+60. The more you go insane the more parents are introduced the the SY+60 concept. |
But 12 months is just wide enough? |
BY parents want their kids to continue playing against kids a grade below them…. |
I prefer BY. I dont like SY with a single date cutoff of 9/1 because theres still trapped players. It's like leaving a room because it smells like farts. Only to go into another room that still smells like farts just a litle less. Maybe go into a room that doesnt smell like farts instead. |
Hope you are following the humor ... I think you may be but not 100% sure! |
I would be ok with an exceptions for kids in districts that the cut off date is 8/1 or 7/15 and started kids on time but i would not be ok with an exception made for an august birthday with a 10/1 cut off just because you decided to start your kid a year late. |
9/1 to 8/1 with August birthdays playing up or down to align with their school grade has always been a superior argument to SY+60. And isn’t one state’s school year based on birth year (Connecticut maybe)? In which case, SY+60 fails to help kids from that state. |
So it’s the perceived intent for people who choose not to send their kids to school based on an arbitrary date is what gets you? Do you know how school cutoffs work? They don’t say your kid MUST attend school by a certain age. They say you MUST be a certain age before you start. |
Here’s the info on school cut off dates for kids (by state). I know it’s been posted to this chat before.

They actually do say that your kid must attend school by a certain age. In Washington state that age is 8. In other states that age is 5, 6, or 7. |
