So you're saying that some players are in the right grade (through no fault of their own) but unable to compete in that grade. What should we do with these players? They're in the correct grade but screwed over through no fault of their own. If only there was a way to solve all this. |
Yeah we get it, grade year. My kid has a teammate who started school a year early. Not sure what he will do in Fall 2026 but he will be fine because at the least he can also play with his grade at school. |
Nobody wants GY except for the cheaters excited by playing down. |
I'm sorry despite good intent, you end up still causing MORE problems when SOME kids end up 14 months older through various exceptions. Think about it where a July kid plays an August kid from the next year. We need a 12-month window to minimize age differences. (6-months one really but that's not on the table). |
Just to clarify are they cheaters for holding their kids back for non soccer reasons from anytime in the past until a GY announcement was made or only the people who hold their kids back after a GY announcement is made? My son is 6 and has autism and needed to repeat kindergarten so are we cheaters? He doesn’t even play soccer at the moment. You sound like a real A-hole for saying people are cheaters when 99% of holdbacks have nothing to do with sports. |
In general non cheaters are the ones in states with a start date that is before 9/1. Cheaters are the ones born before 9/1 without a start date of 9/1 who's parents hold them back so their kids are bigger + stronger than the competition. |
Again you’re assuming most people hold kicks back for sports when really has nothing to do with that especially for soccer. Because we’ve always gone off a 1 year period of time no parents has held their kids back for soccer. So if they did make it GY then it would just be a coincidence not something people planned. If the rules allow for straight school grade (GY) then it’s not cheating because cheating implies an act of dishonesty in order to gain an advantage. It can’t be dishonest if the rules allow it. That’s not how cheating works. I’m sorry you and your bubble team kid have such a low chance of making a top team that you have to come on a forum and cry and complain about something that isn’t even a rule yet. |
Boom roasted… |
So maybe a SY cutoff date and 2 months before, we'll just call it +60 will address all trapped players. |
Is MLSN2 allowing biobanding/waivers? Our team has had a kid with a May birthday a year older, but same grade level, practicing with us the last few weeks 🤷 |
I think the argument is people hold back for sports usually in middle school, switching to a nonpublic school to do so. |
Frankly, it'd be easier to make all the school systems switch to 1 date. How about Jan 1? |
That logic doesn’t apply to soccer because it does not use GY for comp which is where recruiting takes place 99.9% of the time. So anyone up to the point they announce GY(if they did) wouldn’t have done it for soccer advantages. So anyone who has a soccer playing kid who’s been held back or repeated a grade wouldn’t of done it for physical advantage because their is no advantage based on current soccer age rules. |
But school year starts in the Fall for the rest of the world. American kids will not be able to compete academically because of intellectual RAE. |
Found the BY crazy…. Very sad…. |
