ECNL moving to school year not calendar

SepQ4 I know either want to stay on the current team OR only move to younger cohort only IF it's a stronger club/league. It'll be highly situational.

Why didn't anyone suggest BY-minus-60 during the past 10 years? Guess that wasn't a concern of BY+60 guy, or it would have happened.

BY + 4.5 months woulda worked out great for us!

We only need BY + 1. But seriously, just play against a younger professional club academy team, and my kid should be one of the best on that team. Thanks to playing up literally in the top team from the beginning, he is going to his own grade and dominating the younger group.

Or bored. Or finding it's harder than you think.

Scrimmage with the younger group all the time, always beat them 5:0 or more. Half of the team will be gone next year for sure.

Sounds like a recipe to not develop and fall behind. You want teammates to push the kid to be better. You may want a stronger club.

Different poster - you clearly misread what they said. The point being 1 year younger is a huge difference. They're not playing every game against the younger squad, but when they scrimmage it's a drastic difference.

No misreading. People celebrating that they can dominate younger players. How does that help their development (beyond a nice confidence boost?) What happens when they get to HS and ride the bench OR can't handle older players anymore because they stopped playing them?

You should talk to those Q1, why many of them don't play up, but choose to play with younger players.

They don't choose. Few ever are offered. That's the system they have and most are at the proper development level. In fact, some are looking forward playing with older players to help them improve.

If my August kid went to school on time (our state is 9/1), will they be allowed to play down a year or is the 60+ only for kids that were held back a year from school? I would like the option for my kid to play down a year, like the kids that were held back from school.

NO that's the point. It's birthdate AND grade. It's mostly for kids in states where the cut off is earlier. If this is a real scenario holding your kid back is probably a good choice given the intellectual abilities of their parent.

What about homeschooled kids? Would all the August and July homeschooled kids get to play down a year because they can just say whatever grade they are in or none of them because they couldn't verify what grade they are in?

This is exactly why it's a 12-month window, not actually based on grade.

SY+60 = kids born after 9/1

But, it also allows kids born 7/1-9/1 to "play down" with kids their grade in school. As long as they can prove grade enrolled and birth date.

SY+60 specifically prohibits older kids from playing down with younger kids. Even if they are in the same grade in school.

SY+60 is actually answering his own questions now. Please seek help. It’s not that serious.

It allows older kids to play down and create a 14 month window.

It is a 14 month window but 7/1 to 9/1 has to show proof of age with a birth cert and proof of grade enrolled in school.

The only kids that will qualify for 7/1-9/1 are the once from states with a start date before 9/1.

An attempt at a salvage operation. Some noble prize plus sized literature lost in a catastrophic purge.

You sure cause their aren't any states with July starts but the idea is for a 60 day allowance? "But, it also allows kids born 7/1-9/1 to "play down" with kids their grade in school. As long as they can prove grade enrolled and birth date." So you are saying the SY60+ would only apply to what, the 5 or so small states with August birthday school start dates? Seems like a nothing burger then.

And also to those states with a 9/1 start where the kids elected to wait to start school who were July of Aug. birthdays.
