And yet...the people on board the submarine aren't the ones making tasteless jokes about people who are probably dead.

Idk you couldn't pay ME $250k to get on that thing but I also think they're human beings with loved ones.

Two opposite things can be true at the same time. Of course most people feel bad for their terror, death, loss. And SMDH at the foolhardy, arrogant, wasteful indulgence.

It's like seeing some idiot in a million dollar car driving like a jerk and then having a fender bender. Wasteful indulgence confirms owner stupidity.

And what is it they say? Every billionaire is a libertarian until they need a billion dollar search and rescue effort.

I am one of those people who does not think it’s moral to be a billionaire, but that doesn’t mean I want them to die or suffer. I just want them to be like Dolly Parton and do good things with their money. And I don’t think that being really sad about it makes somebody a better person than the ones making Orca jokes. We really don’t need to feel bad for these guys (excepting the teenager).

They could be “do[ing] good things with their money” AND also decided to spend 250k to take this trip. It’s not an either/ or.

I wasn’t critiquing how people use their money, I was explaining how i feel about billionaires based on PP’s comment about how liberals think billionaires are bad. The fact that I think it’s immoral to be a billionaire (which some liberals believe) doesn’t mean I want them to suffer. It just means that I’m not going to feel really bad about it when they suffer because they have done something really stupid for no good reason. Like if warren buffet died in a fire in his mansion I’d feel bad for him and think jokes about fires were tasteless. Same if your average family died the same way but I’d feel like those joke were morally reprehensible . And I think most people have degrees of sympathy just like me.

where did you see this

NP but..The Coast Guard said a remote-operated vehicle had discovered a debris field in the search area in the North Atlantic, and experts were evaluating the new information.

I hope the stupid thing imploded. I know that sounds awful, but at least the people on board never saw it coming. Surely they're dead either way by now.

Are we paying for this??????????????????

we shouldn't be helping of paying for this..

DP but I don't think a billionaire dying in a house fire is any more or less tragic than a "regular" person dying in a house fire.

Damn, they really did implode. Those poor people. God rest their souls.

How can they not know where they are when they have the exact coordinates of the wreck and of where they last were? The submersible sank like a stone in the ocean (literally) from a specific location. Obviously, it is on the ocean floor at or very near to that exact spot.

No, he doesn’t have a point. Has he never heard of ocean currents?

This thing weighs 12 tons and is not buoyant. It would take a pretty major current to displace it THAT much.

The physics of how things fall in the air and in the water are different. In the air, weight mostly determines how fast something falls to the ground. You can have effects from wind resistance and the density of the air, but it’s negligible compared to what happens in the water.

In water, weight (mass x gravity) isn’t the sole determinant of whether it falls. Think about a ship that weighs 10 tons vs a bowling ball that weighs 12 lbs. Which will sink? The displaced water will push the object upward with a force equivalent to the weight of the water displaced.

Submarines are designed to be neutrally buoyant, which means their density (mass/volume) is the same as water. Water is not compressible, so the density of sea water is more or less constant depending on the makeup of the water. Depending on how much ballast was shed, the sub could be like a drop of water in the ocean if neutrally buoyant, going wherever the current goes.

These subs are designed to be neutrally buoyant in salt water. In water, you care more about the density of an object than just the weight. The

Isn’t very coincidental that the debris field was discovered after four days of searching just when they ran out of oxygen?

Okay, multiple people dying in a fire is sadder than one person dying in a fire, but by that same token, a family of billionaires dying is sadder than one non-billionaire dying. My point is, if you aren't doing something foolhardy of which you knowingly assumed the risk of death, what does it matter how rich you are?

Why doesn't England pay for it? They are not even Americans they are coming to America for a "better life", They are coming legally, but still....not even Americans yet and using our tax dollars.

If PP is worth a billion dollars, you have a point.

There are a lot of rescue operations in which they ask the one who was rescued to cover the cost of the rescue when the person rescued got himself into that situation by doing something reckless.
