There is a Venn diagram here of distrust of librarians and general misogyny.

Why do we have G, PG and R rated movies? It is so that some content is restricted from children.
I use common sense media a lot to determine what I wanted DC to see and not see based on age appropriate psychosocial development. I feel like most good parents do this.

Nope. Many students do NOT have access to
Free books. Many students don’t have parents who will take them to a library or have the technology to read digitally.
They need to be available for all students. Removing books students previously had access to is banning. Plain and simple.

You want gay porn in schools because of poor people? Come on man.

It’s not gay porn. Look up the definition of porn FFS. And who cares if a book has gay characters?
I don't care about gay characters but pretending Genderqueer doesn't contain porn is simply crazy.

Then YOU don't have to read it. YOUR KIDS don't have to read it. But you do not get to decide for me or my kids. The. end.

Anonymous wrote:So, anyone willing to say they want old copies of Penthouse in school libraries?

You have strong pedophile vibes.

Meanwhile, all of the books about African American history and that represent gay families are out. Children’s books, not smut. “Before She Was Harriet:” why is that gone?
Amazing. All you progressives want Penthouse in school libraries.

what is with the Penthouse stuff? Penthouse/Playboy was never in school libraries. I mean, What are you talking about? You're throwing crap at the wall and hoping something sticks. Do you not understand how libraries work? Do you not understand what banning books is?
Stop listening to your pastor and Fox news..
Its difficult to debate with progressives because you so emotional and can't focus on what's actually being asked which was do you want Penthouse in school libraries? Yes or no? And why or why not? And as a Democrat, I don't watch much Fox News

I’m a school librarian who would not put penthouse in the library. I would, however, put other books, which I deem appropriate, in the library.
It’s about age appropriateness and book choice.
I’be been doing this for 25 years. No one has been corrupted on my watch because I’m professionally trained with degrees in education and media studies.
Parents are not.
It’s not hard to figure out.
What's your take on Genderqueer and Lawn Boy?

I wouldn’t put lawn boy in my school because I don’t think it’s particularly well written.
Gender queer should be in HS. Maybe late junior high.

See, we make decisions like this all day long. But this banning of books and accusatory nature towards educators is tiring, frustrating and ultimately, bad for our learners.
Stop.
Thank you for admitting that you want porn in schools as long as it's the right kind of porn.

Look up the definition of porn. It’s meant to be titillating. Gender queer is not. Have you read it?
We’ll never agree on this. But you don’t get to decide what books my kids read.

No one is stopping you from buying the book and giving it to your kids. People are saying it’s not appropriate for school libraries.

Then your kids should not check it out, upon your instructions. YOu worry about yourself, rather than what my kid is reading. And if you can't control your own kid, that says something about you I guess.

How many of you whining about these books in libraries allow your kids to have computers with the internet or allow them to have phones?

Because I'm LOL'ing at the pearl clutching over school libraries while not realized the entire universe of books, porn, chat rooms, dark web, etc. etc. your kids have access to. And can do so without you knowing.

So sit down. And leave the librarians alone. Worry about yourself.

Tell us again what you think the porn is. Because every time this book comes up, not a one of you has read the book and it shows.

OK, then I want Penthouse and Maxim in the library.

The better diagram is people with education degrees and leftist activism.

So schools should have the same moral compass as pornhub. Got it.

God, I hope so. Your kids need our support. Your gay ones, your depressed ones, your kids in need of medication, hungry kids, ALL OF THEM.
Proud to be a leftist activist.

We've all seen screen shots of the porn it contains.

Thank you for your honesty. Not many ideologues are so honest.
Now everyone else can see what I've been saying here for a long time: there's a not-small cadre of political activists posing as teachers who feel that it's their moral obligation to indoctrinate their students with ideology.

It gets more and more obvious. Unfortunately this zealotry is driving more and more people into privates or homeschooling, which only further degrades public education.

Agreed. Our kids will graduate soon or we'd be looking at private options. There's no way I'd subject my kids to 13 years in a progressive school district like we're in today.

If you're going to post 4 times successively, at least don't pretend to be different people.
