I have been told that I should expect an uphill battle as not only are we not connected, but that there are an unusually high number of "guaranteed admits" from legacy, sibling, and "connected" families likely to come out of Beauvoir this year. Anyone have any insights on this? My son is very bright and an excellent athlete and musician, so I think he'd be a great fit, if given the opportunity.

where did you hear that there are an unusually high # of "guaranteed admits?"

Also, are you coming from public or private-- that may make a difference.

Not OP. I am a Beauvoir parent. I cannot speak to legacies or "connected families." But just going through the class lists, there do seem to be a high number of siblings who presumably will apply.

PP: what do you mean by "high" can you give an approximate number?

Just going through my head, I think the number of siblings could be as high as 18 if you count NCS.

Yes, if your son has a lovely singing voice and enjoys singing - auditions for the National Cathedral Boys Choir will be in October, to be followed by a six-month series of rehearsal "tryouts" if selected.

Does STA ever offer academic scholarships? Or is aid strictly need-based?
Anonymous
Just need based.

But you don't count NCS as a "sibling preference" for STA, do you?

Yes, on the app it asks about cathedral schools, not just sat alum

But I believe sibling preference is actually given to same sex siblings who either attended or are currently attending.

I understand that STA's and NCS's admissions are completely separate. Does this mean that sibling preference is given only for same-sex siblings who are attending or have attended the school?
Anonymous
They are separate but from what I've seen, they look fondly whenever possible at families who are already "on the Close."

Will athletic prowess and accomplishments be a factor for lower school admissions?

In the STA Lower School the competitive, interscholastic sports begin in Form A (6th grade). Forms C and B (4th and 5th grades respectively) do not have teams competing with other schools. Athletic talents would be more important in STA admissions for grades 7 and up than for lower grades.

09:45 again. Sorry -- meant to say grades 6 and up are where athletic talents count more.

I was told a few years ago by the AD that athletics and other talents matter much more in the upper school admission process.
