I doubt the whole Oak Hill would go to KAA. But maybe Emerald Chase goes to South Lakes and the rest of Oak Hill go to KAA.

Remember currently Emerald Chase kids (and Bradley Farm kids south of West Ox) go to Westfield. Moving them to KAA won’t give relief to Chantilly.

I don't take it for granted that Thru and the school board will do what makes sense, but what makes sense is to send Emerald Chase to KAA with the rest of Oak Hill in order to keep pyramids aligned (and, assuming the Franklin Middle School kids get redistricted for Carson, to eliminate a split feeder).

I agree. The school board has an opportunity to build an actual school pyramid with no split feeders with just making a few changes. I hope they don’t find a way to screw that up.

Thru basically gave Emerald Chase two choices: merge with Fox Mill and go to SLHS with other Fox Mill kids (no split feeder scenario 3) or stay with Oak Hill and split at MS/HS level (scenario 4).

I get that Emerald Chase parents may want to avoid SLHS but KAA can take only 2000 kids and Chantilly needs relief.

Emerald Chase parents have been very vocal about what they want. But it’s not like the school board and Thru ignored their original complaints.

I don't live in Emerald Chase, but nearby. I think they sincerely hate the split feeder thing. It seems that any time people object to going to a different school that people assume it is because it is a less desirable school.

I will remind you that during the South Lakes boundary study that Chantilly neighborhoods fought against one another to stay at Chantilly over Oakton--which, at the time, was considered a much more "desirable" school.

Then they can go with Scenario 3. No split feeding under Scenario 3.

But they lobbied hard against Scenario 3 to stay with Oak Hill. Now their wish is granted under Scenario 4. Are they going to complain about split feeding this time?

To be clear FCPS is not creating a new split feeding pattern here. Emerald Chase kids are currenlty going to Westfield, while the most Oak Hill kids are going to Chantilly.

Doubt those Oak Hill kids stay at Chantilly with the opening of KAA. Will be interesting to see what happens with those maps, as Dr. Reid indicated last night there will be changes at the MS and HS level which will be "feathered" into the Scenario 4 map. So basically buckle in.

A lot of passionate conversation to be had there... And I want to hear what other people around the county are thinking about the new scenario!

70% of the posts on rezoning are usually about Langley in some way.

Disagree. Quite a bit of talk about WSHS, Lewis, and LB

You can scroll past the posts about other schools that don't affect you, rather than trying to censor other's discussions.

I'd argue that almost none of the rezoning posts are about Langley. WSHS, LB, Lewis definitely isn't. The KAA/Western HS stuff isn't either, but Langley posters keep injecting themselves into the conversation about boundaries that don't apply to them.

That is a new term for me. Can anyone explain?

Telling WSHS families to ‘just stop’ when the data shows kids moving from Lewis to WSHS when there is an overcrowding issue makes no sense and moving Sangster kids to LB for really no reason.

I bet too that if WSHS parents had a vote they’d rather the kids being moved in scenario 4 than taking in the Lewis kids—prove me wrong.

Not on school board. No one knows how many potential Lewis to WSHS students are in that cluster. It’s all speculation based on nonsense.

Of course no one knows. The point I think some WSHS parents are trying to make on this, however, is that we've seen this play before. It is the same thing that happened with Daventry. The Daventry parents 10 years ago argued that they just would be moving in a handful of kids by moving from Lewis to WSHS. And now there are a LOT of kids coming from that neighborhood. We can't tell you how many because FCPS staff doesn't make that info available.

It can start as 9 kids and end up at 40 or 50 real quickly. Also, the idea that you'd move current WSHS kids out to make room for Lewis kids, when Lewis is already underenrolled just boggles the mind.

Yes, and that's why they should be looking at how many household units they are adding or subtracting. I don't know the numbers, but if there are 100 townhomes in the small area that is moving from Lewis to WS, it doesn't really matter if there are only 10 high school kids there now. There is the potential for there to be 50 or so with that many housing units.

It is the reality that the people who live in those townhomes move when their kids are middle school aged, pupil place to a different school, or go to private. I live in this community - I know. They won't move if they can go to Irving/WS. They are lovely townhomes - large and some with garages.

While they are at it, they really should address the area MS AAP feeder patterns while they are at it to minimize disruptions, but that's probably too complicated for them to do it all at the same time.

LOL you are going to have to ask with Dr. Reid as she used the term in last night's meeting. She also said they would release "Drafty drafts" of the KAA maps in likely 10 days.

It means they’re laying a foundation and the KAA maps will be built around the changes recommended in scenario 4. This is mostly with regards to the Coates changes, I assume, but could also indicate the plans for South Lakes (keeping Floris a split feeder and moving Emerald Chase) might be their intention.

Efforts to start different threads on boundaries typically get shut down by Jeff. So we could try to split this up into regions but he might not get on board.

I don't think it means anything other than it will be woven into the ongoing county-wide review at some point before the formal proposal to the Board next January.

Adding 100 and losing 400+ townhomes.

She might as well just get a chalk board and scratch it with her fingernails. "Drafty drafts" just means "half-assed."

LOL! And, except for her beautiful pictures all over FCPS website, doesn't that describe everything she has done?

No one cares about her pics. What they do care about is the education of their kids. Huge growth in so-called leadership hires does not improve education.
