What would be better to wear to a disaster zone?

I did disaster work, and we never would dress up in those situations—even if we were not doing the labor. The people who appeared on TV would be dressed in jeans to seem more appealing.

Well jeans would have been a lot more appropriate. You can look at literally thousands of photos of elected officials and their spouses at disaster sites to see what is more appropriate than black tights, a puffer, and a giant scowl.

Here are the Bidens, just for one example:



DeSantis wears some weird clothes to disaster sites - a campaign vest and high white boots, for example - but he's not pantsless.

You put on something that makes it look like you're ready to pitch in and work if need be, but is also clean and respectful to the people you're seeing. That outfit she's wearing is not respectful to the people she's seeing - she's making it look like she doesn't care (which, accurate!) and is there because someone dragged her out of bed and didn't give her a chance to put on an outfit.

That time she wore a (very expensive) flannel shirt and jeans to do some gardening would have been appropriate. This is not.



Anyway who cares. The semiotics of her wardrobe are clicky but inconsequential. Fook FEMA.

Yeah, this is an unflattering picture of her, but this is how mid-50's women who have not injected their face with a ton of fillers and who haven't done plastic surgery look (like so many of the other Trump women). They are aging. This is aging. Melania is aging just fine. She is still an attractive woman.

Okay the leaning forward is two things:

One is, he leans forward towards whatever camera is he focused on. DRAMATICALLY forward. He thinks it makes him look thinner and aggressive, and I think he’s usually right. But from the side, it looks a little nuts. This is the same category as the insanely long ties. It is actually doing something, it just has side effects.

Two, it’s a thing weak men do when they’re in a conflict. I watched a video of Bill O’Reilly doing it while yelling at an airline employee and it suddenly clicked for me. I think they learn it as children and never recover.

No plastic surgery?! The irregular blend from the side of her cheeks to her ears is the giveaway that skin has been pulled back and attached again there. Every man or woman who has that procedure has a very visible scar along the ear.

I think you took a wrong turn. This is the beauty and fashion forum. We discuss the appearance and sartorial choices of public figures all the time. If you aren’t interested in that, there are lots of other forums.

You misunderstand. I am here for the discussion of them making weird/bad/stupid fashion choices. I am NOT here for the criticism of her professional appropriateness, because she’s just a spouse.

Back to the Sabrina dress - here's the listing from it was auctioned off from Debbie Reynolds collection. The description says that Edith Head actually made it, based on Givenchy designs that Audrey gave her. Maybe that's why Givenchy had a hard time recreating it.

You can also zoom in on the embroidery. Interesting how they point out parts of it to prove it was the actual dress worn in the movie.
