Hahahaha! This is SO CLEVER. It’s like Karen, but then you turned it into KAREEM, because he’s black!

I chose the name Kareem because it's the male version of Karen because of the first four letters. It's Karen if you drop the 'n' and add 'em'.

We get it, but it's equally offensive as labelling a women with a stereotype.

I'm trying to make viral the idea that the PA should be sueing the videographer for posting that video.

I agree it's equally offensive to choose a Black man's name. I'm the poster who said a while back that labels matter and we need a label for this behavior, just like doxing which works so well in different circumstances. But keep race and gender out of it.

Have you ever been pregnant? I am caretaker for a permanently disabled child so do have some perspective here. Being pregnant varies from person to person but my 2nd pregnancy 3rd trimester was brutal. No one is trying to take away your invisible disability here. You can still have some compassion for pregnant ladies, especially those that are working and commuting right on through it.

It was an e-bike. Not the same as the regular citibike. E-bikes are difficult to find. More than likely there were multiple individuals looking at their Citibike app trying to rush and be the first person to get the last e-bike.

If this is true, even more important that the guy GIVE THE PREGNANT LADY THE BIKE. Brings me back to taking metro during my pre-COVID pregnancies, both of which were third trimester in DC summer heat. First one I just stood and stewed. Second one I was almost yanking people out of the seats by the doors when they were clearly NOT elderly or disabled.

Let me introduce you to the concept of invisible disabilities.

I look relatively fit and far too young for this history, but I've had multiple heart surgeries and occasionally goi into arrythmias where I need to sit and take a medication. This is always a surprise to people who have just met me.

Be aware that it isn't always how it seems. Sorry about that -- I also don't want for me to be sitting in the metro when there are other people around who can use the seat. The alternative is even less pretty, though, and sometimes involves blood if I hit my head.

+1. My disabilities are numerous and trumps any pregnant woman, but you would never know from looking at me.

Precisely. There is a reason that PP isn't using "Ciaran" instead, and it's because it does not have the dogwhistle effect of emphasizing that the young men are Black.

Let's go back to the dogwhistle that it's a woman of a certain age and color. PP is not comfortable with the proposed racist name, hits too close to home and that's not ok. How about we use no such names?

Fine with me. I'd be thrilled to see the term Karen disappear, but that's not going to happen anytime soon.

Let's come up with a label for the behavior, like "doxing" which works so well as a pejorative for the internet mobs who release victims' addresses and phone numbers. A word to describe setting up a woman as a Karen when really she's just the victim of your behavior.

Must be nice to have enough free time (no hobbies?) to over analyze some lame video. You guys are really deep in the trenches!

I’ve stopped my ActBlue donations. The wholesale and enthusiastic embrace of deep misogyny by the left is so awful. I expect Republicans to be misogynist but it hurts more coming from the left.

It should have been apparent to anyone with a lick of common sense and compassion that a heavily pregnant nurse coming off a work shift was not going in be stealing a bike from a group of men. I knew this video was off immediately, and I’m not a very sophisticated video analyst, just someone who is tired of the unrelenting embrace of misogyny from the left. It should have been obvious to everyone this was off, that there was more to the story. But that’s not the case, because “Karen” is now the money-making repertoire of the left.

I’m tired of it. I’m tired of women being expected to carry water, of women being targets for the political stunts of the left and right. I’ve had enough.

I’m sorry you feel this way. I too am lefty and I hate this misogyny too. But I still want to vote in primaries. And it’s pretty clear the Karenning isn’t coming from the entire left, even if many progressives regrettably look away when it happens.

It feels at this point like staying in a marriage with a domestic abuser because other men are more abusive and the marriage is workable when he isn’t in an abusive rage. That’s not okay. For my own dignity, I need to leave. I don’t need to put up with this any more.

I wonder if that ‘journalist’ Judge will delete or recant. She seems really incensed and invested in this and hasn’t even admitted the tiniest of possibilities that her hot take might have been wrong.

The Karenning isn't happening because people are progressive. It's coming for reasons that are racial and misogynistic. And from a small but vocal minority of white women who think allyship means letting people steal your bike.

Progressives may be guilty of tolerating this, or of looking the other way. But the impetus is race and misogyny (think the MAGA Incels who created the name Karen), not politics.

She won’t recant. She’ll delete the posts though. She’s in way too deep to apologize.

Some interesting backpedaling from Judge.

Here she is touting how her essay comparing the PA to Emmett Till's accuser is the top result for the PA's name on Google, and cheering the idea that this woman's name should forever be associated in this way:

And here she is claiming that the only reason anyone knew the PA's name is because [passive voice] "it was widely reported," as though Judge herself had not made it her mission to get the PA's name associated with not just racism but one of the most famous lynchings in history:

Also just the sheer ironing in claiming that the reason people are criticizing Judge now is that "they need a main character to blame, pile on, and abuse" with zero self-awareness.

I wish Monique Judge mental wellness (girl, therapy) and peace and privacy, all things she sought to deny a total stranger because she misinterpreted her actions in a 90 second video.
