Not really. Percentage wise of the number of grads there aren’t that many top schools on there. They have 400-500 per grade? |
TJ's college placement isn't what it used to be either, especially with the top schools. |
I care. They are data points to reference. |
Are you serious? Not to knock TJ, but the 2023 Instagram college placements were fine, even good, but not amazing. There are over 500 graduating TJ seniors, and 10 students posted Ivy destinations. Most 2023 students are attending state flagships. That’s good, but let’s not overstate the case. |
A magnet is similar to private schools in that it had competitive admissions and doesn't have to "take everyone." So yes, you will see strong admissions from these schools...especially TJ. |
If you have 500 extraordinarily smart people competing, it might make it harder maybe each Ivy only wants a couple of students from each particular school? |
You do realize that many (probably most) are probably donut families that would need to rely on merit or in state options. They don't have the wealth factor of private schools. |
They also aren't spending six or seven figures on private school tuition. |
Was thinking the same thing. |
I never mentioned Ivies. Most of their graduates are going to T30 colleges and that is very impressive. And yes they are able to achieve that without paying a hefty price for their high school and while competing alongside 500 extremely competent peers so good for them! |
Magnets are nowhere near the same. This school is large. Grad class is over 400 kids. Cathedral school grad classes are 71 and 75 this year. |
A magnet school is a public school. This thread is about private schools. |
Did you ask them about this???? I am pretty sure that is the role of the top college counselors no? Maybe they are doing so great in college admissions they don’t need to do that? |
It’s a data point for competitive applicants from the area. If you want less data, for some reason, then take all of the public and parochial schools off of the list. |
Oh please. Did I even say anything about the class size? You people clinging to private school being better than thou is so laughable. And I'm paying $50K a year myself for private school. I can still have an appreciation for a school/student body that is so high achieving. You need to get be a bit more open minded. |
