We received our waitlist letter today. Sigh. Do any spots typically open off the waitlist, or is it just a polite no? |
STA's lax program is top notch. There has been no "radical change" in the prgram. Coach Lester has been there for as long as Prep and Landon's coaches with the exception of a brief hiatus. He is competing in a league with 2 hall of fame coaches and 3 other programs that are neck and neck. League parity is the rule now. STA won the title a few years ago and has played even with Prep and Landon for the past several years. A year or two ago, STA beat what is arguably the best program in the country from upstate NY. We have a similar share going to play in college as Prep and Landon with the similar level of individual success at both D1 and D3 levels. If you area good student and good lax player at STA, Prep, Bullis, St Stephens/St Agnes or Landon, you will be noticed by college coaches. |
Lester is a good guy, but STA lax is definitely down. Landon and Prep are rated among the top 20 programs in the country in the preseason, so there is no shame being below them. But STA had a miserable year last year, including losing to Herndon HS. Herndon HS. It may be cylical, but STA was the worst team in the IAC last year and will likely be the worst team again this year. |
The waitlist is a genuine one as not everyone gets waitlisted. I would urge you to contact the AO and let them know (if true) that you remain interested and hope aspot opens up -- and if you can say this, would go if one does.

Yes, real wait list; we know some families whose son got in off the WL. |
Does anyone actally get an outright no? I know a few in the W/L category, including ourselves. |
Yes, they do (a fair amount of them) but folks don't tend to advertise the outright rejections. |
How did the St. Pats to STA exmissions work out this year? Mainly looking at 4th grade for next year. |
Yes, several Beauvoir boys, over the years, were outright rejected. |
Does St. Albans school recruit high school lacrosse players? |
Are you currently at St. Pats? This year, 4 applied for 4th and all were accepted. |
Ouch. Can't imagine StP being thrilled by that. |
Don't they expect it? |
Have no idea what you're talking about?.... St. Pats doesn't like families to leave before 6th or 8th, and truthfully many don't apply out beforehand. There are usually just a small handful who leave early, but considering a 100% acceptance rate for those boys who chose to leave, it's not bad. |
I meant pissed that they're leaving early. As you said, they don't like families to leave before 6th. |
