What are you suggesting? Hoverboards in the hallways?

Make the time between bells longer? Have leeway for students with long walks? Easier than hoverboards.

But that's not happening, so this process will inevitably result in an either inefficient or undesirable result.

Yep. I think it’s better to do option 1, to reduce so many split articulations. Eventually, then need to do an elementary school boundary study to do a better job of solving this issue.

Is there space to build out Wheaton to solve the overcrowding, if option 1 is adopted?

This has already been discussed and debated extensively on this thread. There is a "shell" space in a building next door. Some people have concerns that it would make it very hard for students to get to classes on time depending on which parts of the buildings they are going to/from. In addition, that work would cost an unknown amount of money and historically it takes a very long time for capital projects to be approved and even then, they are frequently delayed for several years. Not to mention, it is inefficient use of taxpayer dollars to build additional space when the existing buildings have plenty of space if you distribute the students effectively.

Understood about the capital project. Although the split matriculation and the busing are downsides. I would think the cost of busing to more effectively utilize space should be weighed against the capital project costs.

With the DCC, it really doesn't matter if things are split as kids split up to pick different high schools. Its not like they'd be all together anyway.

Then they lose out on academic time. Are you paying for the hoverboards?

PP doesn't care. They know know the new capital project will never be approved, but that's fine because it's not their kid in an overcrowded school while classrooms at other schools sit empty. Gotta love MoCo community spirit.

Is there discussion to end the consortiums? Seems like such a waste of busses.

The only real solution is to build another school, down county under Blair as that's where it is needed. But, really, MCPS has a spending problem and their priorities are wacked so it will never happen. Many don't realize how much is lacking in the DCC schools outside Blair and Wheaton which make them popular. They should not allow any students outside the DCC into Blair or Wheaton. That would be a good start.

Sort of, but they may end up creating six regions across the county instead, so still a lot of bussing.

I love how some people are all about reducing x government spending up until that involves their kids going to school with Black and Hispanic kids. That needs to be avoided at all costs including land and construction of a new school that is not needed and will likely be closed in a decade or 2

NP: Option 1 causes the least amount of disruption.

People don’t attend church anymore. Life evolves around your school community. With so many monumental changes this year in unemployment and AI and more coming down do we really need more change? Or for our local govt to provide some kind of stability.

If they cannot live in the neighborhoods, they should not be entitled to use our schools, given that they purposely moved away. Even if they build a new school and the population decreases, that would be good. I cannot imagine it happening. The schools are entirely too big.

They could also fix the equity/lack of classes by doing advanced classes virtually if there are not enough students per school and align the bell schedules.

Reorganizing the schools really isn't a big deal. Not that many lost their jobs and AI has nothing to do with anything. You are stretching.

The wealthier schools have everything the kids need. The reason for the DCC was that these schools don't have nearly the same things and it gives kids opportunities to go to a school where they might have it.
