APS Closing Nottingham

We already discussed using another space besides a school — it’s not set up to be a school and developing it to be so will cost money, whereas using a preexisting school just costs bus and some planning money.

So Nottingham parents will push for delay or some other school, because things like this are for OTHER school communities, and not for them. The Karens of Nottingham will insist on speaking to your supervisor, you can be sure.

Oh, DCUM discussed it and decided it? Oh, I guess it’s a done deal then! Good thing you all were elected to the school board!

bashing nottingham moms doesn't seem like a great argument but you do you.

"Nottingham should close because those parents are awful! And someone in Nottingham somehow offended me 8 years ago so the kids who are there now really deserve this."

Does anyone else think the “we” here is APS staff who are commenting on this thread?

For sure. The ONLY people in Arlington who have those views of Nottingham are APS staff. Definitely them. No one else.

I’ve been following this thread and completely agree that the wierd anti Nottingham parents thing has to be APS staff. Who else is so mad at them for some perceived slight several years ago? Pls let me know and I’ll tell you why those other North Arlington families do not care one wit.

I dunno. There have been some major crazies from Tuckahoe and Cardinal over the years. My money is on one of them.

They all behaved poorly. I have no sympathy. APS should just do what they need to do instead of being swayed by the loudest people.

This. I saw how they dug in their heels on the Key > ATS > McKinley > Cardinal moves. The more people debated them, the more they stuck to their position.

You are the all grown-up person referring to some perceived enemy as "McCrazy" in here, so please allow me to introduce you to this kettle.

I don't think the first responder got your humor here, but I did, heh!

Don't forget McKinley.

Driving across the county during rush hour to make it to pick up before 6 disproportionally impacts lower income families, particularly those who do not have cars or who only have one parent.

Because there is no more centrally located swing space option that doesn't require major renovation to be used as swing space and therefore isn't nearly as inexpensive as re-purposing an existing functioning elementary school.

DP. "McCrazy" isn't an "enemy". She is a parent who acted like an a-hole at a SB meeting for us all to see. She's one of various parents who behaved poorly over the years. APS should limit the amount of feedback parents can provide and just do what needs to be done. We end up with suboptimal solutions when they try to appease the whiners.

Also because ALL the elementary schools in this are are undersubscribed, and nearby elementaries are not oversubscribed. To fill up all of these 22207 elementaries, it will mean that kids in the south have to be bused to the North as part of their normal neighborhood school experience, for years, rather than go to their southern walkable school. That's what you're suggesting instead of having kids bused for a year while their southern school gets renovated -- so you seem to think busing is some huge problem when it hurts you but not when it benefits you.

Nottingham kids will still go to great nearby schools, this is really not a big deal. Please find some perspective.
