This isn’t saying they should move to virtual or not. They’ve now backed themselves into a corner by trying to pass the buck off to Hogan.

How so? MCPS's policy should absolutely be to stay open. Schools should be the last thing to close, not the first.

Mcps does not make the decision for anything other than schools. Why do we need the government to shut things down to behave responsibly?

In person school doesn't NEED to stay open. You WANT it to stay open. If you want schools to stay open, what sacrifices are you willing to make to have that happen?

Why should kids have to sacrifice even more to protect the elderly and unvaccinated? Why don't they sacrifice? How many senior citizens are isolating? Closing schools shouldn't be under any sort of consideration while the elderly are out socializing with family and friends.

How many are unvaccinated in this county? It’s not the unvaccinated or seniors to blame anymore. We are having outbreaks in high schools where almost everyone is vaccinated. This is not as simple as playing the blame game or wishing it away.

High schoolers aren't ended up in hospitals. The vast majority of hospitalized COVID patients are either elderly or unvaccinated. Surely you know that.

I don’t care about hospitalizations vs spread. I don’t want Covid. Why can’t you acknowledge the spread in MCPS includes many vaccinated.

Most of us wouldn't want a cold or the flu either, but it would be ridiculous to shut down schools every winter. It isn't a rational response to the risk. Get vaccinated and your risk is very low. The elderly and medically frail can isolate, and kids can go to school. Sure, there would be cases. But very, very few serious cases.

It’s not as simple as vaccinations anymore. Many of those getting Covid in mcps are vaccinated. Must be nice to minimize Covid and pretend it’s no big deal. Unfortunately it’s not that simple for some of us.

Are you willing to volunteer when we don’t have enough staff to teach and keep the schools running?

This is not equal to the cold and flu but if schools are more vigilant about sick staying home and do more cleanings perhaps we could have that under control. The flu vaccine is also not that effective this year.

When are you going to realize that case counts don't matter- case severity matters. Yes, vaccinated people can get COVID, but they don't get seriously ill unless they're very old or very sick with something else.

MCPS got $390M in COVID funds. We should be doubling or tripling sub pay. That's a drop in the bucket given MCPS's total budget.

Who wants to work as a sub and get Covid? You aren’t willing to. Even at $30 and hour there is no sick leave or health insurance.

Covid may not be a big deal to you but it is to others of us who don’t want to get sick. Yes, people are getting serious I’ll and it’s highly contagious.

Most people don't have your level of anxiety over mild illness and small risks. Others have had to face their fears because they didn't have the luxury of staying home.

COVID isn't going anywhere. You're going to have to face your fears at some point, too. With Omicron, it shoild be more obvious than ever that you're not going to be able to avoid infection for the rest of your life.

Is this how you justify all your choices that put the rest of us at risk? Outside the necessities, yes you can choose to stay home.

I don't have to justify anything. My family has been out and about since the beginning. That's just how it is.

Then stop complaining about schools closing and quarantines as you are incapable of being part of the solution and we need to protect those in school from people like you.

Most people in the school are like me. People that have accepted the endemic nature of this virus. People continuing to essentially shelter-in-place are waiting for something that's never coming back.

People like you don’t understand what “endemic” means. This ain’t it.

No, but covid is going to be just as dangerous to you in a year as it is now. So get vaccinated so that danger is minimal.
