Bennifer Revisited

I should have gone back to treatment, I should have faced it, we could have dealt with it better. I didn't do that.....I just acted out and avoided dealing my struggles in a healthy way". Better no? Does not bring her into it by inference or suggest how she made you feel. In other words, take responsibility. I imagine so many things his former wife coukd have said about him in the throes of his relapse...hurtful, embarrassing things. She really never did. A shame he could not be as gracious.

+1. she also had a career, three kids and a marriage (to an addict to both) and took responsibility of it, did not fall apart and blame others. never blamed him during or after. he is really a selfish a$$, he could have kept it for himself, at least for his children's sake. reading your daddy started drinking because he was trapped by you and your siblings must be really great for teens

lol JLo is a million times more high maintenance and needy than Jennifer Garner.
I hope Jennifer Garner is happy. She seems like such a lovely person.

Except JLo is willing to put Ben first (or second, after her career). For Jen G, it will always be her kids.

It was plain as day that he was never into Garner, but that interview was so damn disrespectful to his ex and his kids.

+1 J Lo and Ben are well suited that way.

He was really into her in the beginning, just like he was really into all of them in the beginning. Ask the nanny, or the playmate, or Anna de Armas...or JLo the last time.

No, she was a rebound from the Bennifer fiasco and provided him good press and stability. I don’t think he would have married her if she hadn’t become pregnant. Still, no one forced him to keep having kids with her if he was so unhappy.

Why would he say something like this. It is so mean and his ex has been incredibly kind. I think the trapped feeling was that she was pregnant when they married but he had two more kids after so he kept it going for awhile. I am guessing Jen G can be controlling but maybe she is controlling because she was married to a child. I hope this new/old relationship works for the sake of his kids.

I think he's kind of a douche, but I didn't think the quotes were that bad. He laid the blame for the drinking on himself, praised Garner as a mom, and was real about the fact that the marriage didn't work.

The US Weekly headline definitely sensationalizes it.

Whether he and JLo last remains to be seen. I think she's a force and isn't going to compromise a lot. It's a recipe for success, but he may not be able to keep up.

I LOVE Jennifer Garner, so I feel like this is a betrayal, but there is something I like about the idea of Bennifer 2.0 being Hollywood's GenX glamour couple a la Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

OMG these fools are nothing like Annette Benning and Warren Beatty.

+1 Annette B. Is pure class and Warren appreciates her.

As has been said a number of times on this thread, he'll feel trapped within two years no matter who he's with. He's a mess.

He imagines a future with his new superstar girlfriend will not include trapped feelings? Really? Like he's completely gone the other way with a mentally healthy, non controlling partner who is all for his creative endeavors and will not demand too much orcontrol too much or be complicated? He will have a simpler life?? This is his choice for more freedom...jennifer lopez? He thinks she will easily tolerate or live him through his relapsing or gambling better than the other one? She'll be selfless? Good luck to him.

They have something in common though....kids are an afterthought. While they play like teenagers, others are raising their children.

He also got that Phoenix tattoo or whatever….and JenG was all “I’m not your ashes, dude”

Ugh. He’s such an ass. I hope his kids tell him where to shove it.

And the poster talking about priorities just inadvertently proved an earlier point that JLo clearly doesn’t prioritize her kids in her decisions. That might be good for this relationship, but it doesn’t say much about her parenting.

She puts her career and her fame first and has, I think, for a very long time...decades. Hard to believe she can truly change, her incentive to make a relationship work was probably highest with Marc Anthony, who was the father of her children and her third marriage. If she couldn't weather rough times with him long term it seems unlikely that she won't bolt again when it gets hard and real, as it always does.

On the one hand, I enjoy ben spilling the tea about his and jens divorce, but on the other, what a jerk. Who says that stuff to the press about their kids mom?

Years ago, on this forum, I had described Affleck as a deadbeat and some woman—most likely a white woman—, was quick to point out that he couldn't possibly be a dead beat because he was worth ...whatever amount I can't remember. I thought to myself : 'it's precisely this kind of cluelessnes and desperation for male attention on women's part that breeds the Afflecks of tomorrow'. A dead beat is someone who continuously shirks his responsibilities—social, marital, professional. Financial , etc—in favor of questionable self gratifying and sometimes illegal acts. He's manifestedly not a family guy , never been . Worse, he couldn't even be bothered to have a discussion with his then wife about the number of kids they wanted to have as it's clearly been a point of friction that contributed to the breakdown of the marriage .This was pure cowardice .

As an actress and even a person —though, admittedly I don't know her —, Jennifer garner does nothing for me , absolutely nothing. However, if we're being objective , it's hard not to see her as the grown up here . Until Affleck proves he was held at gun point and forced to marry her , he's just proving himself to be the idiot he's always been.Adulthood requires that one chooses its own path in life and make decisions independently. And herein lies the problem .

It was obvious from the get go—at least to some of us—that, this union was a mismatch of two entirely different people. Garner and Affleck really have nothing in common. He allowed PR machines and potentially racist family members to influence a choice that quite frankly should've been made by none other than himself . This union should've never happened . Therefore , all things considered, why would anyone be surprised that a deadbeat of his caliber fails to show any contrition and instead plays the victim by arguing that he felt trapped ?
