I expect more RIFs at RAND soon. New sales are stalling and current leadership has no clear path forward. |
What about Aerospace? |
A little turbulence, but overall we're doing great. I don't what's up with these other FFRDCs. |
Aerospace had it's best year for revenue in 2025! |

CNA suffering with tough times in their IPR practice...targeted layoffs...
|
How’s the FFRDC? Is it struggling like the FFRDCs at MITRE and RAND? |
Steady for now...the FFRDC side has made some RIFs of staff who've been there for 25 years of so. |
Steady? Doubt it. |
| I am hearing that IDA is planning to do lay-offs. Their report writing culture is so old and sucks up 1/3 time of an FTE. |
How about RAND? |
| more layoffs seem likely bc little new work is coming in from what people say. but i have no direct info from the c-suite only rumors. a while back the place took some very clear and public positions surrounding ai that appears to have put a target on it from this admin. |
we don't have a lot of work with PP but they don't provide the same service. Some folks in intelligence area haven been let go. |
FFRDCs are mostly toast unless they cut on their overhead. We have been asked three times from DOGE previously and sr leadership on what FFRDCs get paid and why their rates are so high. |
In the current climate, several FFRDCs need to eliminate *at least* 1 entire layer of management — along with other cost cutting — to reduce their overhead rates to more reasonable values. |
I agree. A lot of FFRDCs have to merge and why they have to be so expensive for an FTE. Sometimes, I don't even see a value on what they bring to the table. They just continue to support cushy contracts and average age of employee is above 60+ at IDA. |
