i know. and the current operating budget is at a deficit. that’s before you add in another school. so where is money coming from |
You Great Falls posters are ao weirdly aggressive. I don’t live near there. I just know a western HS has long been a system need and there is a lot of frustration that land would never become available. This is a lucky thing! Land, school and even furnishings at a below market price! Just because Great Falls is activated and defensive again doesn’t mean facts and history don’t apply. |
Could we not use it as a school? Could it become the new Gatehouse? Just turn it all into administrative offices. |
Just to be clear, those teachers and staff members who lost their jobs were from all over the county, not just Great Falls. It’s almost comical how you think attacking Great falls is the right approach here. But to a hammer, everything is a nail, I guess. The fact is that there is a budget shortfall, and it’s good governance to ask where we are getting the $150 million for that purchase. Where did we get the $150 million? Since money doesn’t grow on trees, what else is FCPS giving up besides teacher job cuts and lower raises? Will we have even bigger class sizes now because of the purchase? So many unanswered questions. |
If there’s anything Fairfax county needs more of, it’s fewer schools and more office buildings! |
What is wrong with you? |
Sure, convert classroom and gym into office cubes, fill the swimming pool, what do we do with the theatre? sell it to AMC? Crazy talk. We need a high school, and this will be the high school with the best and newest facility. My only reservation is whether teachers would be sufficiently staffed and and whether new teacher would be sufficiently trained. Given the Carson's student body, I believe the performance of the new HS would be on par with Chantilly. |
While school purchases and upgrades will affect the annual budget down the line, they are funded initially by bonds. It is a different funding mechanism. |
I don’t think the braggy tone helps you here. Anyway, Carson without the AAP kids from Franklin is mid. |
Did we vote for a bond on the $150 million? I thought it was just a bond on site acquisition. |
Coates and McNair are 2.6 miles from Carson and KAA. They are 4.2 miles from Herndon High Floris is NOT 2.8 from HHS. How did you get that? It is 5 miles from Herndon High School. It is 3 miles from Herndon Middle School. It is 1.5 miles from Carson/KAA. And, Discovery Square (a Floris neighborhood) is practically across the street from Carson. Good luck with getting the School Board to put Coates and McNair into Herndon High. They would not put McNair into Herndon during the South Lakes boundary study because of demographics. I don't think Coates was yet built. As for Forestville, there are neighborhoods in Forestville that are 2 miles from Herndon High School. But, you know that. |
And, you think people vote to acquire a site without expecting a school to be built on it? Who knew. |
DP. Your shtick grows old, especially when it is completely irrelevant to the topic at hand. |
So, you're back! |
To date the only funds earmarked for the western HS are about $25 million for site acquisition. The remainder of the projected cost is identified in the most recent CIP as unfunded. I wish the Carson families were honest and admitted they are fine with jumping the queue and bumping other renovation and construction projects. Instead they crow about how they are going to have the newest and nicest school. |
