The Montoya-as-legal-advocate-for-supply-chain-safety-of-medical-marijuana = dope-dealer-who-wants-pot-in-our-schools trope is really over the top. You're as bad as the one here who screams that right-wingers are so subhuman as to have no business even considering a run.

The real problem with Montoya is that the only experience she has to recommend herself as a BOE candidate is that she has been PTA president for NCC ES for a few months. That's not good enough.

But she is an advocate for marijuana.

Yes, she is. And good for her on that. Because that is outside the universe of K-12 public education oversight, it is another reason why she is not a good choice for the board of education

On the contrary she's an excellent choice for school board. This seems irrelevant since lobbying for a legitimate business interest isn't disqualifying.

It is disqualifying to a lot of people who know drugs are not a good thing.
Legitimate business, my ass.

You're also against antibiotics?

Weed kills strep?

God that would be awesome if it did

It is possible to smoke or do an occasional edible as an adult and not want weed or other drugs in schools. Certainly the case for us and among our parent friends. It is legal for adults, just like drinking. i'm sipping a glass of wine right now....don't want my underage kids to drink yet.

I mean I get you’re trying to cut down PP but it’s falling flat. Their take is extremely reasonable. Is the only rebuttal you can come up with an insult?

It isnt comedy hour for you. It was an appropriate comment and the only right one.

See this is where we differ. I don’t believe any comment I make is “the only right one.” You are certainly entitled to your opinion. But when you start slinging insults like that and insist you’re right, it’s clear there is no rational conversation to be had here.

That PP to whom you replied.

Not all BOE members need to have decades of education-related experience to represent the public well. Having too many from the inside can result in myopic group-think. Critical thinking skills and an outside perspective can bring benefit where domain knowledge is not terribly deep, as long as one brings an open mind to the thoughts of SMEs who might fill in where helpful, being careful not to be ruled by that which the SMEs provide. A vision and understanding of the interests of the electorate can be just as important.

For what it"s worth, Montoya is an attorney, and might provide input from that angle as well as utilize associated critical thinking skill. Some may also find that not to be enough, but saying her legal education & practice isn't part of the experience one might consider for her is a bit off.

Marijuana use is a problem.

Not saying it isn't. Or alcohol. Or much more dangerous stuff.

The characterization of the candidate is way off, though.

So she isn’t a marijuana advocate?

So you can't read even a few posts above? A legal advocate for supply chain safety for medical marijuana (unlike the mischaracterization of promoting dope in schools).

Or are you just trying to make the unstated impression the most recent word for others to see?

You need to read. No one said that she is promoting dope in schools except you.
Seemingly, you see a link in her advocacy and weed in schools.

Eh? I'd say that you need to read and apply context. "All about the weed" isn't enough for you, even though it's clear aim is to detract from the candidate with lack of proper nuance? Go a few pages back and see the dope-in-schools posts from which this draws.

I’m not voting for any marijuana advocate.

Good enough, as with the PP whom I thanked, above. As long as we aren't misrepresenting the nature of that advocacy.

Nothing is being misrepresented and we can interpret it the way we see it.
You want us to be naive.

I want us to be well informed, and not with half-truths or misrepresentations. That's the opposite of naive.

I have no issue with your (or anyone else's) deciding that a candidate's acknowledged job as an advocate for safety of the medical marijuana supply chain disqualifies her from your or their own consideration. I do have an issue with you (or anyone else) posting in a way to misrepresent that occupation as being a pusher or an advocate for drugs in schools.

You made that up. Bold where anyone but you said that.

Perhaps you are relatively new to the thread and the board. Aside from the half-truths that keep popping up regularly (the "advocate" stuff without the more specific nature of that advocacy, despite that specificity regularly having been provided in earlier clarifying rejoinders), there's the post from somewhere in the 80s about the slippery slope of parents using medicinal marijuana causing second-hand exposure and then use by their children who then would bring that to school

Or the fact that Jeff had to delete an entire thread of sock-puppetry where some of the same was thrown about related to an initial post that effectively misrepresented her obligations under various PTA bylaws. (Follow-on conversation somewhere in the early 60s)

Or similar innuendo-laden posts before that and in the prior who's-running thread.

Yeah despite all the back and forth squabbling over Montoya and Harris on DCUM, Kim was an easy vote for me in the primary. Most likely it will be those two in November but will worry about that later.
