So not only will the US still have to take its $3bn of lower quality Aussie beef each year (75 year low on livestock numbers here due to drought) but it’s at least temporarily lost its $1.6bn grain fed beef sales to China. Aussie farmers for the win, I guess.

Trump is very expensive for the U.S. taxpayer. We’re going to have to personally bail out the farmers that have lost their markets. Just like the soy farmers last time.

Trump will issue EOs to bail out farmers at the expense of everyone else.

+1 ultimate welfare queens. And before someone says, "They feed America." No, these farmers export their products. That's why they need bailing out because now no one wants to buy them.

So, I'm guessing THOSE factories won't be coming to the US? (that was the plan earlier this week, right?) Or that the trade balance will now get worse given the Chinese tariffs on U.S. products/services are still intact (that was the plan later in the week, right?) Or that China will now be eager to now pick up the phone to make a beautiful deal given how strong Trump has been? (that was the other plan, right?) How can MAGA defend such incompetence? What hasn't he backed down on?

"Electronics imported to the United States will be exempt from President Donald Trump’s reciprocal tariffs, according to a US Customs and Border Protection notice posted late Friday.

Smartphones, computer monitors and various electronic parts are among the exempted products. The exemption applies to products entering the United States or removed from warehouses as early as April 5, according to the notice."

I spent all last week practicing screwing in tiny screws! What am I supposed to do now?

Well, keep on practicing. Screwing is what this administration is all about, don’t forget the lube though.

Can’t afford it. All the lube comes from china.

😆 I miss these exchanges.

Tariffs coming back on semiconductors and electronics? Not sure how to make sense of this flip flopping.

1. Opportunities for insider trading
2. White House is a den of fools led by a demented emperor with no clothes
3. Someone belatedly realized that removing tariffs on semi conductors and finished electronics and keeping tariffs on goods required for manufacturing would defeat their supposed objective of encouraging manufacturing of semi conductors and finished electronics

What?
Trump’s dementia is spinning out of control. He’s crumbling fast. The books that come out on this will be epic. His cabinet needs to start getting serious. They’re not going to be able to grift off of this much turmoil.

for those who need a translation, China is dumping US paper and is set to destroy the US economically unless Trump blinks.

America could have dealt with Japan earlier, but instead waited until Pearl Harbor.

What is your point? We need to economically cripple China? (Which we can’t do without economically crippling the US)

Here’s a plan. Let China alone on its internal policies and human rights. Contain expansionism via alliances with other SE Asian countries. Continue trade with China to improve bilateral relations. Normal diplomacy and acting like rational adults.

OR, we could have strengthened out economic defenses first by providing incentives for building the products we rely on in the US before attacking. We are like the lion cub that got hungry and attacked an animal capable of attacking back.

Ffs. Wall Street and Silicon Valley bros, hope you’re happy! the only sector winning from Trump is crypto, the most corrupt and least actually economically legitimate sector.

What’s going on with the tariffs?! Are they on or off, temporary or permanent? This instability is going to kill our economy. It doesn’t look like anyone in charge knows what they’re doing.

We are in Alice’s wonderland. Or the upside down.

China calls the exemptions “a small step” and urges the U.S. to “take a big stride” by rescinding the 145% tariffs.

They basically said “Sit Ubu, sit! Good dog!”

It's almost like this administration has no idea what it is doing, no clear strategy and no clear end game or path to get there.

They said a bit more than that.
