Looks like a new Gaza war has started

I’m not dating they should have to play nice with Hamas. The majority of Palestinians do not support Hamas. Netanyahu’s government and approach to security through oppression has been a total failure. Get them out and try a more humane approach with Palestinians interested in peace.

Yes they have to get Hamas out. But the Israeli hardliners have to go too.

Umm … Israelis have been protesting Bibi in the thousands. Don’t know where you get the idea that most Israelis think he’s the bees knees.

Yet, the same people who claim Palestinians deserve blame for Hamas conveniently absolve Israelis for electing Netanyahu and his war crimes.

Louder for the people in the back!!

These people pulling down posters everywhere are AGAINST supporting kidnapped hostages. They are handmaidens of Hamas.

Completely undermines the argument that they are pro-peace and only want Palestinian suffering to end.

They are anti-civilization.

More "pro-Palestinians" pulling posters down.

Guess “we” should arrest them and their families. No trial needed, no proof…just someone on Twitter doxxing them. Good enough. Let’s make the USA just like Gaza and the West Bank!

I'd also tear them down. These people aren't missing in Miami so why post their pictures in Miami?

You would seriously tear down a poster of a missing 4 year old just because he’s not missing in the USA?

What's the purpose of these posters? The 4 year old is not missing, we know exactly where they are being held. What additional information or tips is anyone expecting from residents of Miami?
Why is propaganda and domestic issues of a foreign nation plastered on American cities? I don't see posters of the thousands of Gaza children missing or of the millions of others missing around the world.

Israel has refused a visa for the UN Undersecretary General for Humanitarian Affairs and has announced it will refuse to issue visas to UN representatives.

I think it's pretty clear that Israel wants blood.

No one is claiming that.

Look though this thread and you'll find plenty of it.

This is so lame.

You realize there are many many people who oppose Likud AND Hamas right?

I’d like the Pope to visit. People need to start talking about peace, not vengeance.

NP. We have these posters all over my town. I’m super sympathetic to Israel, but find this unnecessary. I teach kindergarten, and very young children are expressing concern about their own safety. They don’t understand this is thousands of miles away. The posters also feel voyeuristic over another community’s pain -We all know the Hamas victims aren’t hidden away in our community. I am all for visible signs of support, but the kidnap posters feel like one of those “grand gestures” that is meant to shock, but will ultimately not do any thing.

I have a 7 year old Jewish child who would see one of those posters and not know what it is.

So I don’t believe you that your kindergartners are being traumatized by the posters, unless someone is telling them what they are.

Some young children can read or have older siblings. All it takes is one or two in a class to give a brief outline that they read something concerning. Most children will find posters talking about missing people to be alarming. If your 7 year oldchild is able to pass by posters all over of many, many missing people and not be curious or alarmed, that is not normal. Children do not need to be told great detail to understand when something is wrong.

Yes it will be very bad for the US. Netanyahu and the right wing is Israel are not to be trusted.

Exactly. Their officials have actually used the words “collective punishment” to drs river their intentions in Gaza. They are punishing millions of people, half of them CHILDREN, for the actions of a small handful. Not to mention, everyone agrees that too Hamas officials are not even IN Gaza.

So they’re going to kill and maim thousands of kids to get some very low level to mid level scum. They’re publicly dating this and the US is letting them get away with it!

GW students projected “Glory to our martyrs” onto a building.

Is this what you all term simply being pro-Palestinian people?

In Arab/Muslim culture, any victim of a murder is considered a martyr. This doesn’t necessarily glorify militants. The martyrs are likely dead civilians. Dumb because they should know not everyone understands that.

Because these slogans are totally just about mourning civilians:

Glory to our martyrs
Free Palestine From the river to the sea
Divestment from Zionist genocide now

You also know that jihadist terrorist groups consistently use martyr language to talk about their fighters who die.

Can you think of a country that doesn't glorify soldiers killed in battle?

And, it is totally another to glorify the terrorists who attacked innocent civilians and slaughtered them - including infants, women and toddlers.
That is what we are seeing around the world and sadly, right here in the US.

+1000

+ a million.

How exactly does one “free Palestine From River to Sea”?

Sickening.

Yup. No way to do that without eliminating Israel. And if it’s done under current Gaza leadership, that means Hamas would rule that entire land.

They would murder every single Jew, Christian, etc.

Umm. There are Christians in Gaza. Two of them, relatives of former congressman Justin Amash, were killed when Israel bombed a church they were sheltering in.

Anecdote but I have never met a Palestinian Christian who has positive things to say about Israel and its treatment of Palestinians or Christian Palestinians.

Right. Christians are also non-Jewish and are second class citizens in Israel. In the occupied land, they are just the same as as any other Palestinian, who Israelis call “cockroaches” in common talk.

The ultra orthodox are toxic. They spit on nuns, they spit on anyone who they think is a Christian.

No one in their right mind thinks Israel is an innocent victim in this crisis and Israel's attempt to browbeat people into picking a side is failing miserably. Dead babies are dead babies whether Israeli or Palestinian.

Or whether they’re German or British, right?

Why are you trying to re-prosecute WWII? You know it ended 78 years ago, right? And that the Geneva Conventions were established in large part to avoid the civilian casualties and atrocities that occurred then? Yes, I expect Israel to behave better than blitzing civilians. We all agree that it was horrible in WWII and it's horrible now. And also legally a war crime now.

I’m pointing it out in response to posters saying Israel is like the Nazis and trying to excuse what the Allies did.

Every state commits war crimes. Every single one. Hamas has committed them too.

So criticize Israel all you want, but at least be honest about it.

No you're not. You're not being honest either. So let's be honest, Hamas is not a state and this is not a war. This is a police action by a state against its protectorate territory.

If you really want a parallel to the distant past then it is most similar to either the French in Algeria or the British in Mahdist Sudan.

So we’re back to “Israel is a colonizer.” Sigh.

No that is your projection. It's an uncomfortable fact that Palestine is not a state, that Israel is in charge of its supposed international borders, and that there is a massive technological difference between the weapons each side has.

But you're right it's much more like the British destruction of the Mahdists then the French in Algeria.

Palestine is recognized as a state by 139 countries and it has UN observer status. Sorry — you don’t get to act as though Palestine is devoid of agency.

The ICRC are also UN observers. I'm not saying that Palestinians are devoid of agency. Nevertheless it is unmistakenable, unquestionable, uncomfortable fact that Palestine is not a state and that Israel is its occupying power. That one simple yet inarguable fact is very important.

There are only two UN observer states: Palestine and Vatican City.

And for the millionth time: Israel doesn’t occupy Gaza.

Good lord. Yes.

Though I’m seeing the logic expressed elsewhere that because Isreal has illegal settlements int he West Bank, it is somehow occupying Gaza and responsible for Hamas? People have no idea what they are talking about.

They say that because Israel has had Gaza under a blockade since 2005 and they severely restrict the movement of people and goods in and out of Gaza. It’s de facto occultation.

You’re being very disingenuous here.

Right, because Israel has the same relationship with Hamas that we have with Canada? Are we back at this again? Free trade with a terrorist group is not a thing. Sucks to be a terrorist organization.

Hamas /= Palestine

Hamas was elected and controls Gaza. Do you not know this?

The vote was over 15 years ago.

And they didn’t even get a majority of the votes back then! Since then they e been using intimidation, threat of physical violence, and fear to rule.

It’s sickening to me to hear Americans citing this election, which took place 17 years ago, to claim that the Palestinians deserve everything they’re getting now.

the point is that Hamas has bern using those things to rule.

Hey Rania -- why not give the hundreds of thousands of Palestinians living in refugee camps in Jordan citizenship?

They are treated like second class citizens, without the full rights of other Jordanians.

Terrible.
