2024 Democratic National Convention

Lots of people worked hard including the Obamas who were still paying off law school/student loans in their 40’s. Why should the new generation get tuition free college?

I am sure the Obamas parents/grandparent also worked hard to save up money for their kids to go to college.

I am sure they all had summer jobs probably as law clerks or something.

They didn’t expect government owed them something, but yet they teach that to progressives

I think we need to forgive people’s college loans; they cost way too much.

And Kamala is right about price caps on basic goods; inflation is out of control!

Michelle Obama:
“Going small is petty, it’s unhealthy, and, quite frankly, it’s unpresidential."

“We cannot afford for anyone to sit on their hands and wait to be called upon. Don’t complain if no one from the campaign has specifically reached out to ask for your support. There is simply no time for that kind of foolishness. Our fate is in our hands.”

“If we start feeling tired, if we start feeling that dread creeping back in, we’ve got to pick ourselves up, throw water on our faces, and do something.”

“We still coach Little League and look out for our elderly neighbors, because the vast majority of us don’t want to live in a country that’s bitter and divided. We want something better. We want to be better.”

- he said, from BEHIND the wall around the convention center,

- before he retired to his WALLED HOME in upper N.W. DC (the Obamas had the wall built right before they moved in, BTW).

half the country would agree, but other half says that the RNC was normal and refreshing, and that this one feels phony and manipulative.

Wasn’t he hiding behind a wall of police inside the convention center? LOL

Can someone explain who the pro-Hamas protestors outside the DNC actually are?

They definitely are not Trump voters, and I presume they are not Harris voters either. do they live in Chicago? are they US citizens? who is organizing them? why aren't there any counter-protestors supporting Israel?

with so many issues going on in the US, it seems very odd that so many people are protesting so publicly about issues halfway around the world.

Who knows what the final result will be in November but I am glad to see that at least one party is not currently caught up in the doom and gloom. We need something positive.

+1

At these conventions, there are meetings during the daytime about policy and procedures. The evening session is supposed to have a bit more pageantry and energy. The RNC was hard to watch. They had the pageantry, but the energy was negative. The DNC is getting it right.

You missed the point of what he is saying entirely. Obama uses the word "we" not "you" - he is referencing all Americans and including himself in his statement about what we find ourselves doing and how that makes us feel. He is calling on all of us (including himself) to work to stay connected to each other even if we hold different views. We have more in common than what separates us.

They are the far left. Extremists.

The far right used to be on the outside looking in, as well. Unfortunately, they've been embraced by some of the GOP and now have a strong presence in the party. I don't think the Dems will ever embrace the extremists that way. Bernie is as far as they'll go. The far left doesn't go for Bernie anymore.

Maybe people felt he should have stuck to calling out all ethnic and racial hatred and not qualifying it.

+1. black people have suffered racism forever. Why call out antisemitism? Read the room. There are tons of black people in that room.

Tons of Jews (and people of other backgrounds) as well. Antisemitism has been around forever as well.

And it's all bad. I don't know why some posters feel that the persecution of their group should be paramount

Jews mention antisemitism and they’re accused of making it “paramount.” Can’t make this stuff up. Why do we bother voting Dem?

Because Trump will kill democracy. But it doesn’t make me feel good given the tacit acceptance of antisemitism

Just stop; you only make yourself sound stupid. Even the Post abandoned the false narrative of “trump is a threat to democracy.”

Exactly.

Except when he says things like how he’ll be a dictator only for the first day or how folks will never have to vote again….

Wise people watch what leaders do, and less of what they say.
Most Americans are demanding secure borders. He did it before and he’ll do it again. Dems opened borders on day one. Biggest mistake ever.

Trump killed the border security legislation. You’re an idiot.

Dp.. but Biden had 3 years to fix the issue. Why wait so long? I suspect because people were seeing the news of migrants overwhelming blue states, there was more concern so then Biden felt like he had to act.

He should've taken care if the issue in the first year. That was a lost opportunity to nail 2024

Blah, blah, blah. Call it later than you wanted it. Fine. A bipartisan group came up with a plan and Trump killed it for political gain. He doesn’t think it’s urgent. He just wants to scare people talking about it.

That was the problem. Biden didn't think it urgent and it got out of control. Your blah blah about this is why some people prefer Trump. But go on and stick your heads in the sand. I hope harris pays more attention to the blah blah.

Trump killed a tool that would have helped. You can’t get around that with nitpicky gripes about the process.

No one us disputing that. The point is that Biden let the border issue out of control. He had 3 years to address it. He could've used the EO that he is now using 3 years ago. Heck he could've used it even just last year.

Why Biden? When Trump was in office he had a red senate. If he wanted it to happen, it would have. Biden may have been president, but he did NOT have a blue senate - it was still red. The republicans talk the talk, but don't walk the walk. Also, Biden is not running for president. Harris is.

Rs are tying harris to Biden.

Trump tried to build a wall. That was his attempt and addressing it. Yes it was a dumb way to do it. But the perception is that he did try to do something unlike Biden when it was too late.

I am not that hopeful that harris will tackle it with any urgency. If Rs don't want to cooperate just use an EO like Biden did, if she's serious about it.

No. The GOP are being PAID to govern. Their job is to pass legislation which requires compromise. If they can’t do that, then they should go home and we need to elect new leaders either Democrats or Republicans who are willing to do their jobs.

Sure, but in the eyes of many in the public, the border mess is the fault of Biden/Harris. Biden waited three years to fix it, and by then, it was too late. That's what the public sees.

The Obama’s were formidable tonight but I think the speaker who moved the needle the most to help Kamala win was her husband Doug Emhoff. This whole convention is ultimately about defining her. Learning about him and their relationship was very powerful and effective. #NotWeird

Perhaps for the dogma believers, but it's mostly nonsense when you consider how well so many immigrants do even when they come with zero wealth and frequently not even speaking English or having proper papers.

Oh? Do they often stumble into the presidency after failing at everything else?

Exactly, show me a POC immigrant who can escape any repercussions for the kind of things the orange fatas* has done and I will take you seriously!

Yes, but “POC immigrant” is incorrect; you failed by excluding “BI” to use the correct word, “BIPOC.”

But you’re right: America is sooooo racist; most racist country ever!

So, why are all the BIPOC immigrants stampeding over our southern border risking everything to live in such a racist country? HINT: you are WRONG about America’s alleged racism, Trump’s alleged racism, and “immigration” in general; PP.

completely wrong.

and what race are you again?

It's not half and half. Don't let gerrymandering convince you that we are evenly split. Look to the elections when abortion is on the ballot. Most of this country is center-left.

+1 That is exactly right. I didn't even realize what a dark cloud had been hanging over us - over ME - for the last ten years until I started feeling it lift, over this last month.

When Biden was elected, it was relief. But the threat of Trump was still hanging over us. For the first time in almost ten years, this last month it's felt like we are finally freeing ourselves of MAGA.

I am far from cocky. But I do feel hopeful. I feel optimistic, for the first time in a very long time.

How is it very odd people are protesting a protracted Middle East war? There’s a reason Bush sr got out of the gulf quickly. Polls show Americans always protest wars if the ROI on the war doesn’t seem worth it. Lots of Iraq war protestors protested the RNC and DNC in 2004. Most of them didn’t get much coverage because there was no social media back then but they were bigger than the Gaza protests now
