In what cities/areas of DC/MD/VA do the crunchy people live?
By crunchy, I mean the organic, natural, alternative healthcare, cloth diaper, homebirth sort of people? Sorry, this is my lazy way of doing a little preliminary research. |
| Takoma Park. I believe it's the only crunchy place in the area. Mount Pleasant and Adams Morgan have some of it, but there are lots of limousine liberals in the mix, too. |
| Definitely Takoma Park. maybe Mt Ranier and Hyattsville too. A few hearty souls commute in on the train from West Virginia. |
| People's Republic of Takoma Park, hands down. |

Is there any particular reason why the crunchy women tend to be homely? And don't shave their pits? Ugh!
Why are the crunchy men always staring at my crotch & legs? Yuck! |
| Silver Spring can be pretty crunchy too, in places. |
Go away. |
| Takoma Park is officially a nuclear-free zone. No kidding. There are signs posted throughout the city. |

OP you will be happy in the greater Takoma Park/ Silver Spring area. Takoma park itself has become more yuppy/crunchy in parts, whereas the Silver spring neighborhoods near the metro are more family friendly/affordable crunchy. Very nice community feel.

Takoma Park, MD
Mt. Rainier, MD Brookland, DC (and surrounding parts like Fort Totten, Woodridge, and Michigan Park). |
| Takoma Park mom here! We are the community for you! I had my baby at Sibley with an epidural. All my neighbors were home births or at the birth center etc etc... but the cool thing is, no seems judgmental of my more "mainstream" ways! |
Lots and lots of bow wows. Woof! |
| Takoma Park!! |
| I do all the things you mentioned except homebirth, and I'm in Arlington. Guess I'm infiltrating the mainstream... |
