Because no one else could possibly be interested in protecting personal property rights? |
By the way, have you ever put up siding? It isn't several inches thick. The gutters might be, if they're needed at all. There are alternatives if it were to really come down to that. But due to the vertical separation, you're not going to notice the distance between the neighboring house and gutters. |
Fortunately, not every one takes the position that "it's all about me!" when it comes to relations with neighbors and others. "Personal property rights" here is merely window dressing for antisocial inconsiderate behavior, nothing more. |
The math shows it wouldn't be "obvious to the eye." The difference is negligible. They can probably bring some renderings to the hearing to show that visually. |
I would say trying to destroy a neighbor's home for their family is a better example of "antisocial inconsiderate behavior." |
Again, the height of thirty feet makes that six or so inches have a far greater impact. Something that is taller is more obvious to the eye, and in this case gives a sense of the neighborhood being more crowded, less spacious because of being closer to the property line. The impact of which calls into consideration whether the addition is in harmony with the community. |
Maybe I don't understand, but how is it that we safely have houses all over the country (and world) way closer to one another than 16 feet. I mean, hell, townhouses are literally attached to each other. |
No, it doesn't. That 30 ft height applies whether it's 16 ft or 15.5 ft gap. You're free to try this arguement at the hearing, but you're going to look silly when they bring renderings. |
| You guys keep it trying to turn this into an opportunity to relitigate the height. That's great news for the homeowner here because it will never work. You're going to need to come up with a better arguement than that. |
It is going to be at least 12 inches over the line once the gutters and roof overhang are added. |
Of course. That is fairly obvious |
There is a large house that burned almost to the ground in Burke South Run neighborhood right before Christmas. The house is likely a similar height or maybe a couple of feet shorter than this monstrosity. The lots sizes there are large, with much more space between the burned down house and its neighbors. All of the houses surrounding the burnt down house suffered damage from the fire. There is definitely tremendous fire risk to the neighboring homes from the size and crowding of this 3 story addition. |
I doubt that's true, but even if it is, the addition would be equally objectionable if it were a foot narrower. |
Roof overhang has been there for months. |
From your story, it doesn't sound like more space and/or less height would make much of a difference. |
